Had a nice walk down to Moorgreen Reservoir from The Misk Hills earlier, autumn colours looked really nice!

  5. That's a blast from the past, we used to go to the Beeches caravan site in Blue Anchor when I was a kid and a quick search has shown it's still there! Two things I vividly remember about the beach was the sea going out miles and instead of a sweep of glorious golden sands it was basically grey mud:D

he has Alzheimer’s and fell at home in September and was taken into hospital as a precaution. He was due to be discharged after a few days as couldn’t find anything wrong, but had bit high blood pressure so they kept him in. It all went downhill from there :(. He had a bleed on the brain from a fall in August that they had said was not a big deal but now said maybe it was.

However, in the ward they were doing things like leaving a water jug on his table but he couldn’t recognise it so wasn’t drinking :(. I was with him the day before he fell and he was like normal, a bit more sleepy but he has prostrate problem so was up in the night a lot.

He went in hospital, walking, talking and living independently. Withinin a few weeks he had delirium and couldn’t walk, talk and we’ve been going in to feed him as can no longer do it himself.

we’ve spent past month trying to get him out of hospital and he’s finally been discharged into a nursing home at the weekend but I’m afraid probably for end of life as he’s losing his swallowing reflex :(. :( :(.

He hadn’t eaten since Friday and wouldn’t let the carers give him a drink yesterday but my sister and I managed to get him to have a bowl of soup and some milk :). However, probably too little too late :(.

we did get him to smile quite a bit tho which was lovely and he’s so much more relaxed and peaceful than he’s been for weeks on a noisy ward.

my whole family have spent weeks constantly badgering the hospital to do more to help him and to try and get him out, wee were to pay 24 hr care at home. However, the longer it dragged on the worse he got and it became Catch 22. They said there was an underlying infection that couldn’t be found and he was better being in hospital. I feel with all the other negatives he would have been better/happier/more comfortable and maybe out of delerioum at home. He would have definitely had tons more care and attention.

I have been angry/upset/frustrated over it for weeks. Lord help the patients who don’t have 4 adult children constantly ringing/going in/writing emails//complaining/asking for meetings etc if this is what happens when you have.

oops, that turned into an epic! It has been so hard trying to force action from super slow moving NHS but the worse thing has been the steady deterioration of my dad whilst they back and forth between themselves. I shall hold them partially responsible for this bringing forward the end of dadslifeand crap quality of it in a busy hospital ward for ever :(

Look after yourself Alex, big hug to you and your dad. I hope he's more comfortable now.
I've seen the same in hospitals - my Grandad (years ago) after a massive heart attack and stroke that paralysed one side and kept him in hospital, always being given his water, the fork to feed himself etc, on the wrong side. I don't blame the nursing staff, they're totally up against it these days, but it's common sense and care that there just doesn't seem to be the 'training for' amongst the constant revolving door of agency workers. A sorry state of affairs.

    My thoughts are with you.
I lost my mum last year to dementia... Worsened by being forced to stay in a care home...
Had to sell her house to pay the 2000per week bill.

    It is a cruel disease.
