Should Camperjam have been cancelled

  2. I think the thing that will most affect the future of this show is how they handle their relationship with (a) traders and (b) campers as a result of what has happened this weekend. Anything they say online, either on their website or elsewhere is going to be closely scrutinized by a lot of people, and therefore I think they are going to have to choose their words carefully. If I were in charge, number 1 item on the agenda for this week would be what the official line will be, and what they are going to say regarding why they went ahead and what they are going to do next, including their planning for next year.

  4. As an aside, I spoke to Sean (Busfest) over the weekend and we talked about their contingency plans for appauling weather and he already has straw and metal roadways on stand-by.

I used to procure metal roadways for site builds and let me tell you they cost a blimmin fortune, so good on Sean (Busfest)!

i wish it had been cancelled so i didn't have to put up with endless threads of how much fun you all had while i was at work

as for the weather. what the heck is he on about
"what none of us knew was that a months rain would fall in 12 hours"
what everybody knew as it had been predicted all week was that we were going to get a months rain in 12 hours! thats a complete cop out in my eyes :(

  7. Considering the weather reports given (they were working from the same reports as us) and the fact that people had potentially already spent alot of money, I think the organisers coped really well...yes theres always room for improvement (communication), however they had to roll with the punches... :rain:

On Saturday morning people were still arriving and Home is where you Park It filled up quite nicely...As you know some traders turned up and went home, however despite the reports the weather wasnt actually to bad...Sunday was great.

The mud was a bit of an issue, however at the top of the hill where we were the ground remained firm. On the whole a good weekend :)

  8. Sounds like you definitely had the better of it, over on the East side of the site. The vast majority of the other HIWYPI - on the West side, over towards the lake - was inaccessible and deserted all weekend.

  9. I didn't go but I went to big bang which was a complete washout, non stop raining BUT other than the racing everything else went on as planned, the Santa pod crew and big bang organisers really did pull out all the stops to ensure people had a good weekend. also they have offered a large discount for next years tickets, which is great of them.

From what I have read camper jam didn't try hard enough in any aspect.

  11. I'd have been gutted if they'd cancelled it. We took two days to drive down through some of the most ridiculous whether I've seen and I'd have been very peed off to then be told to turn round and go home.

There's no doubt the communication was poor, All Thursday and Friday while we were driving through monsoon conditions I was checking the CJ website and it said ' we've had a few showers', which was clearly nonsense, when we got there it had obviously been tipping it down and the road up to family parking was a mess.

I have to say though, we still had a great time. I think it depends on what you wanted. Cos we had a one-year-old with us we weren't bothered about the entertainment and were happy just chilling out at the van but it's understandable that folk are disappointed the billed acts didn't show. I was disappointed not to meet any TLBers but we couldn't find the line up on Sat and there was only so much plodding through the mud we were prepared to do. Where we were the ground was solid so our wee one and all the other kids could run about without drowning in mud but the trade area and down towards club camping was a disgrace.

Given that the weather has been so bad recently i think they could have been better organised and more honest earlier about conditions but at the same time, we all knew what the weather had been like and should have been prepared for it too.

At the end of the day if they'd cancelled it they'd have had thousands of folk moaning about that instead of how messy it was, so they can't win either way. As first-timers, we'll go again and just hope for better weather next year.

  12. You couldn't find the Late Bay lineup display because it didn't happen.

I arrived Saturday morning early, and managed to get onto club camping more through just keeping my foot in and praying more than any skill as a driver or ability of my bus as an offroader (!) and remember having a conversation with Pete and Mork to the effect that no-one was willing to risk moving their bus and trying to get down to the show area, me included. I could see why, based on the state of the back of the Wilma's bus, and the fact that poptop2 went and sought refuge on less boggy ground (and I joined him).

Apparently when the organisers were told we weren't doing it, it was a bit like the one month of rain in 12 hours - a surprise to them, but bloomin' obvious to everyone else!

Actually, now I think about it - what's going to happen to the badges we were going to get for the lineup? ;)

^ you guys who did the impromtu line up on sunday ought to get one - from the pics Ive seen, you lot did us proud and made up for saturdays loss.

It was a regrettable decision we had to cancel but if we had gone ahead, what would our buses have been like afterwards?

  14. The badges should go to them that did the unofficial tlb line up Sunday morning which you mr bay Birmingham have photographic evidence ;)
