"Seat gate"

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Baysearcher, Aug 24, 2016.

  1. Think id probablyish agree with that. Just looked at the cctv, which incidentally im advised is a breach of the dataprotection act to make public but i noticed that the seats were either taken or looked like they were reserved. I could be worng you know. I saw on the news that he had changed trains and didnt have a reservation on that particular train.

As ive said before im not a jezzer fan but my observations kind of support his viewpoint. Like him or not.

  2. An interesting point from the Nick / Margaret documentary was that the private operators are strictly controlled by the DfT in terms of services and that it takes years to get any changes approved. Route investment is also DfT controlled. I'm sure if the trains are rammed, Virgin would happily run more of them if they were allowed to / if the capacity existed. It seems that the root of the problem is the top down state controlled part, which dictates the service that it thinks should be run, not the service that the customers are demanding. It was ever the case with state control, because although the not for profit ideal is a nice idea, without a profit motive resources are allocated according to a bureaucratic process and not according to customer demand.

  3. I've read the story and the back story and really it's not a story.

If it was a story, and the worst thing the bloke had done was sit on a train floor then wow, it'd be possibly one of the worst things a politicians ever done !

More media bullMarmite. Branson a Tory by any chance?

I think you've missed the point slightly. Its not the fact he sat on the floor that is the issue. It's more the fact he lied about the reason for sitting on the floor....

  5. Think you've missed the point that Jezza projects himself as being almost saintly (which his disciples believe he is).

  6. I may of missed the lie. The story I read just explained the reason.
Now checked on BBC news and I don't see anything about a lie?

so if it was first blown up by a politician and the owner sees it putting his company in a bad light he doesn,t have the right to defend his company ?

Some bloke on the Radio did the exact same trip today, same train, same time, he even got on at the same carriage, loads of spaces he said, he spoke to people who do it regularly and they never see it packed at that time on that trip, Jezzer picked the wrong train to try and make his point

  10. I read the free seats were reserved, he sat on floor, after a while a train operative told him he could have a reserved seat.

  11. I'm not sticking up for him, if it was a stunt he's a *****, but I tend not to believe most of what the media says, or at least take it with a big pinch of salt :)

If you ask most people that travel on the trains an hour either side of rush hours it's a bloody pig.

Paying £150 to stand for an hour and a half each way is miserable (cue don't do it etc etc).

Corbyn is failing to mention that Virgin etc pay the government for their franchises...so the government promotes higher prices!

  14. In the past I generally bought walk on fares on East Coast because to get a deal you had to book miles ahead, and that's not practical. I've been stood to Peterborough (1 hour) numerous times having paid the full £150+. Virgin want to fill the trains, so there are deals for advance fares right up to the night before, so now I'm more disciplined about booking ahead and have not paid full fare for ages, often travelling First Class advance way cheaper than walk on standard. I was never a big fan of Branson, but on East Coast he delivers me a better service at a lower price than the previous franchisees, including the 'Nationalised' one.

Why do people continually add the suffix " gate " to any scandal ( often media driven )?
I wonder how many people even know anything about the original Watergate break in & the resultant cover up back in 1972/73.

  16. Are you starting "seatgate" gate ?

Not seen it in the media at all. It was all my own work.
    You're welcome.
