Any recommendations for a cheapish but robust router to do my top box with? Must have positive attitude and be willing to cut wood. Ta.
I have a cheapy b and q performance power and it's great. I wouldn't do a kitchen work top with it but MDF and ply is fine
No all ours were Pametrada or GE Yes I have one and no it hasn't fallen to pieces. T4 is their basic model they produce some pretty fancy ones too but me being poor can't afford the posh stuff.
depending what you are doing with it, there are a couple options. If you are just channeling grooves or doing small moldings to the edge, this will do and will last a lifetime http://www.ffx.co.uk/tools/product/Trend Tret4Ek 5027654542521 T4Ek 850W Variable Speed Router 240V or if you want something more substantial to take 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch bits, this one is built extremely well http://www.ffx.co.uk/tools/product/...30 240V 1 2In Variable Speed Router With Case this is the one i use for work now, but i have used both of the above and can vouch for their reliability and lifespan in a busy workshop. proper job. http://www.ffx.co.uk/tools/product/...40 110V 1 2In Router 2200W In Systainer T Loc
So you use ffx as well, their prices are very competitive.. no I don't work for them but did go to their last trade show a week or two ago. No intention of buying anything yes well that resolve lasted about 10 minutes...
ffx is my local shop, its in folkestone, i am in ashford. But yeah they did mention they were closing the shop to do a show. They are probably the cheapest anywhere if im honest and always got a deal on. I also use Thanet Tools which is in ashford and they have the occasional deal for some stuff they bulk bought. Got a nice chopsaw from them for about £260 a few years back. One off though.
First one looks good. I assume you can use these to follow a simple metal template? (I own every power tool apart from a router, so forgive ignorance).
If you get a router bit called a profile cutter you can follow any shape. They are usually half inch bits though so you would need the second one I listed.. And you will have to make the cut in two passes depending on the thickness of the material you want to cut. I use routers all the time if u need any help just ask I don't mind. I am on instagram @temple_carpentry if u fancy a look.
