Okay I accept that but still need to drill bulkhead with fuel tank behind! How much of a gap is there?
Plenty, you'd have to be a tit to drill though the bulkhead, then push the drill in further, find another skin and drill though that without wondering what it might be. It's closer at the top than the bottom.
Belt and braces, push a bit of petrol pipe/tube/whatever's to hand on the drill bit leaving a few mm sticking out, you can't go wrong.
if you decide to go for a metal framed bed try to get hold of either an original devon bed, or Bluebird customs remake...better IMO than the Rusty Lee, although I have one in my bus, it fitted fine and is easy to pull out/set back. The issue is the fixed supports...these can dig in to anything you store under the bed, whereas the og devon supports fold out of the way....it's a little thing but makes a big difference to what and how you stash stuff under the bed
yeah, have to admit the fixed supports on my current bed set-up are a huge annoyance with the amount of space they take up in the storage area, amd one of the reasons that I decided to look for a replacement... only to be told that Rusty Lee have them too! Bah Humbug. Will have a google for the other types and a scout round on fleabay
We have a volkspares 3/4 RNR bed frame. it was easy to fit and rock and rolls well. Lots of room behind the rear bulkhead. Just go slow with the drill and use masking tape on the drill shank to be sure you only drill through the steel.
It si perfectly possible to construct a rock and roll using r&r hinges without useng the supports that go underneath. A hinged flap made from timber can be used as a support with a batten on the underside of the seat base.
I have a Rusty lee full size bed, I fitted it in under an hour ,it's up in a second or 2 and back down in a second or 2, I really don't understand why people are having problems, I'm very happy with mine, but I'm glad I didn't go for a 3/4 bed
Easy, hand into bed cushion gap at top of the seat, lift slightly few inches then push bed with knees. piece of *******
I don't get it either Barry, easy to fit and easy to use. My old bed was ply with hinges type and it was crap in comparison.
If I was refitting the interior I would be tempted by a full width; but despite a number of dodgy decisions made by the previous owner, one thing I do like is the interior. 3/4 it is
Cos in a croc and leang three feet over the bed to lif the end wouldnt do me a lot of good. I know this as ive had a bed i had to do that with and guess what.... That said its wasnt a rusty of a bluebird. They might be easier.
I use my bus mainly for sleeping in when we are camping,so a full width bed suits us ( I'm over 6 ft and with a sporty figure, if you know what I mean) but I agree if you want more units a 3/4 bed is better, I highly recommend Rusty lees beds
