  1. You're sorted then! We had to buy the brown stuff in especially for him... Foul stuff!

  3. I have a chance to buy the bed below, old style Just Kampers hinge bed with board platforms. New never fitted.
Is it handed or is it just a case of swapping the end pieces to suit?
Is it worth £80, no cushions?

  5. Cheap enough possibly as its a good start, however the finished article may not be as sturdy as you might like. Am i right in thinking its Mdf held together with woodscrews and those plastic things you use on cheap cupboards?

I would use it as a template and see if it does the job. If so then rebuild it in some decent ply.

  7. Hey guys appreciate the feedback and I lusten too all pros and cons. I like you guys are a van owner and of course what a decent product for a good price. I believe my products are well priced and value for money. I don't think the beds are that hard to convert from bed to seat and I've not had that feedback before. Are your hinge bolts too tight? Causeing drag and not operating smoothly. I hear what your saying on the fixed legs under neath the bed I could indeed make them foldable but even the bluebird old bed only had one of the 3 supports on a hinge. There are 3 reasons I haven't made mine on foldable hinges. 1. It's more time consuming on fabrication time so would cost more 2. My concern is if I made them all foldable and when someone put it into bed mode they didn't fold them out all the way they could fold back up causing the bed to drop. 3. I've not been asked to before. I'm the only company (I know of) who offers custom sizes and widths so if you have a request please do call and ask I promose I don't bite.

As for the 3/4 bed you do not need to take you engine and tank out! I supply a plate with each 3/4 bed with a bolt welded to it that you can fix to the bulkhead from the inside of the van.

Any questions or requests please do contact me direct as I don't get the time I used to to get on the forums.

Thanks to everyone for their support and recommendations and I'm here to help whenever. feedback is always welcome good or bad and that's how I can develope my products for the better. Thanks guys

  8. Yeh think your right about the MDF n cheap cupboard thingies, not actually seen it in the flesh.

Starting to run out of cash on my project, not surprisingly really as I'm being lazy and getting someone else to do most of the work. Not being fair to myself, no space, no tools, no ability and know my limits!

Somebody without finesse has been attempting to operate your bed, if they haven't broken the latches that's easy to fix

Got told off earlier for posting mis-information. My cables are elsewhere. Apparently the 2" space down our slider side is occupied by those bags-for-life things.
So where ever we are, the all the head shopper has to do is reach inside the slider & pull out a handy hessian purchase receptacle.
My jump leads are in the bottom of the wardrobe, under a shelf in whats left of the spare wheel well with the spare CV joint :D

Knowing there would be a gap, I made one side more like 3 1/2-4". I stand my table in it and would probably also fitt the hook-up cable in there. And I can get my hand in to retrieve all the pens that end up there.

  14. I have one of yours, yes its a good bed and good value, well made. The struggle is going from bed to seat, as you have to lean over get your fingers between the frame and bulkhead, then try and pull the seatback up, all while bending over and trying not to lean on the bed!
Its not a major issue, and that's why I've never complained about it. Could be worse if youve already got a bad back thouygh! could probably be made better with the use of a handstrap attached to the seat back? I'm too lazy to do it though

Ooh, does the bit that forms the bottom of the seat not lift up, click into place engaging with the seat back, and with one swift move it all becomes a seat again? This is what my hinges are supposed to do (and in fairness they occasionally still do), I just assumed Rusty Lee et al in the 'frame club' did this manoeuvre too?

No. Nor do most (if not all) frame beds.

Working on that right now guys it won't be long and I'll have a solution. I appreciate all the feedback and without it I wouldn't be able to improve on what we already have.

    Cheers Rusty

Do you find you use a lot of pens whilst camping? Colouring in? Joining dots?

You wouldn't believe the things I found in mine early on, courtesy of the (deceased) previous owner. Angina pills dated 2005 was probably the strangest, and the comb complete with some of her hair was pretty grim too. Making them slightly bigger for easy retrieval of dropped items and hovering out general detritus would be a good idea, and also for storing stuff like the jump leads or electric hook up cable.

I should probably say, all of this came about because I am planning on re-doing the cushions at some point over the summer, and the way the bed is at the moment the plyboard is actually part of the whole cushion affair rather than separate with cushions on top. Also as previously mentioned, the thickness of the bottom seat cushion is way too thick - probably contributing to the crapness of the hinges. But there's no point getting nice covers etc when the actual bed don't work like it should!
