More authorities. New orders attacking journalists and the law firms they'd have used to defend themselves are already kissing the ring.
Times radio this morning had a US regulator saying she's looking into trading patterns of any official ahead of the tariff announcements.
One less dissenter, also one less woman in the chain of command. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/creq99l218do
Did you hear the one about Marco Rubio's head of security? Prior to Rubio visiting Belgium 10 days ago his security team were there making preparations. At some point this chap was so incensed that the hotel wouldn't reopen the bar late at night so he could get a drink, the staff had to call the police. When the police arrived, this arrogant dipstick actually fought them and got arrested! The US embassy had to involve themselves to get him out of jail. Not hard to imagine how that went down. "Do you know who I am? I'm American etc." Back in the early 80's I came across a Texan in Cairo bawling at the locals because... he wanted a Hamburger and when he asked where McDonalds was they didn't know what he was on about... so he shouted louder. Certainly at that time for meat it was chicken or nothing, they don't have the land to graze cattle.
I can't remember if it was Clinton or Bush, but in the 1990s when I worked at Heathrow, I found out that they wanted us to stop all air traffic 30 mins before and after his flight to allow his plane to come in unhindered. I understand they were politely told to go to another airfield (Northolt) rather than Heathrow!
It seems the Canadians caused partial climbdown by threatening to crash the dollar by selling off the US government bonds they held, pointing out that the US is funded somewhat by government debt which other countries hold rather than US taxpayers taxes. China holds even more .. watch this space.. Maybe its time to reconsider oil being sold in Euros, thought to be one of the original triggers for the invasion of Iraq..
Better still, Japan sold, sold, sold while on the phone to Trump apparently. China have been selling since January. Major miscalculation insulting everyone for a couple of months. I guess he thought he was softening everyone up. lol Idiot.
Curiously enough. Radio 4 had a thing about lying (fibbing not laying around) and Trumps first term was analysed for porkies. 33k instances apparently!
I see they sacked the boss of the Greenland space base for having the audacity to state Vance's insulting rhetoric did not represent the views of the base. "Following Vance's trip, on 31 March, Col Meyers is reported to have written: "I do not presume to understand current politics, but what I do know is the concerns of the US administration discussed by Vice-President Vance on Friday are not reflective of Pituffik Space Base." Well, on this one, I found it is wrong. Working should never be a shame. As long as it provides you enough to live, it is much more rewarding then being unemployed and living on the system. Working have been too much devaluated in our countries, replaced by tons of entertainment. That's those kind of manufacturing that bring wealth in Europe during 1800's and 1900's. We should not forget that.
agree 100% I just it laughable that anyone could be so stupid as to think that you could reverse the global trade trends of the last fifty years overnight. I mean, even if you could build all the factories you’d need overnight, most of the raw materials you’d need will come from countries that are tariffed. And you’d need millions of workers willing to work long hours on low pay doing low skilled work. The only explanation for this chaos is that trumps buddies are buying and selling stocks at the right time based on his on/off announcements and making billions. He honestly doesn’t give a f about trade or the economy or anything else - it’s just market manipulation to make money. Who cares if it’s investigated and people are prosecuted - he’ll just pardon them. And himself.
