PLEASE READ LAST BIT Engine cuts out after 5-10 mins urgent help needed

    What did they time it to?
    Shouldn't need to re-set carb after doing the timing.
    You should be able to comfortably hold the dipstick. If all they've changed is the dizzy plate and timing it's pretty much got to be that...
     
  4. Single copy solex. Yes they spent quite a while doing the mixture as RAC messed it up and the running is best it's ever been

  7. it will seem like its going really well but if to lean it will burn stuff . Have you got a plug spanner ?

    If you're sure it's running hotter than normal you need to check the timing and (if it's been messed with) the carb settings.
    Continuing to drive it could cost you an engine rebuild / replacement.
     
  12. You need to keep your fan spinning , going down hill wont help
     
  13. UOTE I don't know sorry - shall I drive for a bit and check again after long flat or downhill? What other symptoms of overheating are there ?

  16. You will get quite hot air out your vents when its warmed up or you should its the hot dipstick thats worrying . Id let it cool down and then have a check on things .

    Other symptoms are a seized engine or holed piston. Both less than ideal!
    I guess it's too late to phone the garage now and ask what they set the timing to.

  20. Ok well it's been off for half an hour alternator still very warm everything else is cool, dipstick cool, oil light brown, no leaks etc
