PLEASE READ LAST BIT Engine cuts out after 5-10 mins urgent help needed

ADVICE PLEASE ASAP

Ok so finally on way! Local garage took dizzy apart and found the rivets holding the base plate had come off - make sense for this to cause the above ? Anyway they fixed it, readjusted timing and carb and now I am on way back to Kent! Engine is smooth and quiet, ticks over nice and no hesitation !

BUT - I am now paranoid so I pulled over after a long climb as I felt the hot air coming from heater seemed unusually hot (for a bus) - had a look at the engine it doesn't smell funny and drives fine but dipstick seemed just too hot to hold and alternator metal really hot - paranoid or normal or overheating ? Am on a30 in layby so please reply quick !!

 

where have you held dipstick ?

 

Round bit at end didn't pull it out

 

It should be cold in there...

re adjusting timing might have done it ,put it back..

 

how fast you going and what gear up hill ?

Have you left it running ?

 

Before it all went wrong I checked a couple of times on way down and I could easily pull it out.

40mph in 4th

Idled for couple of mins then switched off

 

Did you mark your dizzy where it was? before you put your trust in a Cornish garage?

 

sounds bit hot , have you got a timing light with you ? is it fast idling ?

 

No! Just want to get home :-(

 

Whereabouts on the A30 are you?

 

No timing light - idle seems fine as does running - should I be able to hold dipstick ring easily? Not been over 60 at any pony so far

 

Single solex ? did they check carb mixture ? ie reset after timing it ?
