Oil draining plug - schoolboy error!

  1. They have. They were in a much smaller place when I got here but they moved to a bigger place nearby a few years ago. Still doing plenty of VWs but there seem to be lots of Porsches there as well now. They had three 356s in when I dropped my van off - expensive toys!

My engine is getting close - might be over there to pick it up on Friday...

  2. Just to give a quick update on how the rebuilt engine is.

Picked it up on Monday and drove home which is about 50 miles. Took it easy as you do but still found myself doing a steady 65 up long hills in 4th which was bit of a contrast with how it was before. Went for an unnecessarily long and hilly drive to a supermarket yesterday and loved every minute, pulls great but is also very smooth - I'm looking forward to being able to get my foot right down and seeing what happens. Also sounds fantastic, actually quieter than it was but a lovely deep roar when accelerating. Obviously need to give it time to judge properly but for now it is a big thumbs up for Speedshop from me, specially for doing it so quickly after I said I do drive it a lot.

On the down side it has made me realise that all my previous and much loved VWs had knackered old engines. should have sorted them out but I thought they were OK!
