Just out of interest, what was wrong with the old head? I'm hoping it was cracked, and not just worn valves and guides!!
You can't NOT investigate this @sANDYbAY ....simply replacing one cylinder head, without reseating, relapping the valves on the old head is bad enough practice, as it is....if the valve sizes are different it ain't never gonna run right, holes or no holes....name and shame
No I'd dropped a valve seat and it had chewed up the head and piston crown. Old valves from the knackered head Inlet 34 Exhaust 41
Bummer. get onto the guy who built it and get him to fit a new 1800 cyl head Foc...with the bungs fitted,,,I wouldn't settle for anything less...seriously or he'll lose whatever reputation he had very quickly
They reseated the valves in the old head and lapped them. At the moment the garage is working to sort out the problems. Anyone or any business can make mistakes, it's how they deal with them afterwards which is important in my opinion.
You really don't expect this kind of issue when you opt to have an engine built by a professional, rather than do it yourself. i'm p*ssed of for you @sANDYbAY
Well all you can do is get some recommendations and then hope they do a good job. It's looking like they missed the mark with mine.
Yes but he needs to move to Cambridgeshire, it would make my life a lot easier. Especially with all the snogging we've got planned
but didn't know the difference between the two... easy mistake to make, granted, but not if you do this stuff for a living. The difference is, there shouldn't be a difference....don't put up and shut up, as you'll be forever paranoid about your new engine....
Depends on the actual porting too dude... 1800 heads have very "open" inlets, so subsequently flow a lot more than smaller valve heads... I've not handled too many new AMC heads, so can't really comment on the porting on them!! But I have built a 2056 that I put a pair of machined 1700 heads (39.3x33) on and then swapped them out for a pair of 41x34 1800 heads, and the difference was massive

This is the thing that is getting me... visually they look very different... I know it's only 1mm on the exhaust valve, and 2mm on the inlet, but you can just "see" that they are different!!
I'm with you there....but you've every right to feel indignant Worse things happen at sea...it can be sorted At the end of the day...it's not fit for purpose....if the guy gave you a written scheme of works that included *fitting a cylinder head that will compromise the sound running of the engine *omitting an essential part that will compromise the sound running of the engine *rectifying unforeseen problems by utilizing techniques that may introduce swarf into the cylinder You'd walk away and find another builder
So given that I have 41 x 34 on No's 3 & 4 and 39.3 x 33 on No's 1 & 2 I will have an engine which has different power on each side.
