new parts price inflation

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Dicky, Oct 17, 2012.

  1. Ive been watching the sliding windows thread and looked up the price of the sliders on JK cos I couldnt believe how much they are new. Not that they are necessarily that overpriced but they were £70 when i bought mine about 7 years go. Two years ago I could have bought the rearmost slider for about £80. I ws amazed recently at the price of new panels. Is it me or have prices taken a mahoosive hike. Is this to do with comparitive economies ie Brazil being on the rise and us in the crapper - I dont know. Perhaps I just never noticed the inflation.

  2. a bit of supply and demand I suppose ?

I've noticed the price of pannels go up in the last 3 years, I think I payed about £150 for my genuine front arches beginning of last year, think they are about £250 now :(

I know there was a delay getting genuine stuff from Brazil a while back.....prices went silly when the stuff finally got here :(

  3. volkswagen have ramped up their prices bigstyle, a lot of the items will start to be special order only soon i reckon as it will not be viable to carry lots of stock and tie up lots of money

  4. Don't forget that scrap steel is pretty pricey too... so raw steel costs are way up!!

I posted not long ago about this, flicking through a 3 year old C&C parts catalogue feels like we've jumped 20 years into the future,

On a side note... Did you know Marty/Doc from the Back to the future film arrived last Sunday! 8)

  9. I know nothing about the economy and all that stuff that effects the prices but one things for sure if the economy does eventually settle down I would put money on the price of everything staying as is and thats everything not just bus parts...

On a wider note i had a 2.5% wage increase in may -

gas and electric have gone up 10% and our shopping bill is now about £15 a week dearer than it was this time last year - i went to the local shop the other day to but my usual 10 bags of coal and instead of being £8.00 a bag they have put it up to £9 a bag -now they cost me £90 instead of 80 , the trouble is everyone is doing it - shops , utility's , parts suppliers , garages , they are putting their prices up but in real terms our wages / incomes are in fact going down if our wage increase doesn't match them -

    Rant over

    I'd kill for a 2.5% payrise.....
I work for one of the largest construction consultancies in the world, and havent had a payrise for almost 5 years.

  18. my personal opinion is it has nothing to do with steel prices ,fuel or transport costs its just pure greed by all the manu[glow=red,2,300][glow=red,2,300][glow=red,2,300][glow=red,2,300]FACT[/glow][/glow][/glow][/glow]urers ./parts suppliers

The instance of the genuine wheel arch in 1995 it was £15.00 from heritage (i have the advert in volksworld 1995)

now its £250.00 as stated in this thread

someone weigh one and i bet its a fivers worth of steel .

its pure greed and i bet all the parts supliers have a minimum 50% mark up on everthing they sell .... which of course they have to to stay in business and make a profit

on a personal note i make and sell overrider impact strips . you can buy a set of 4 from C&C and `special show price ` @vanfest sorry busfest for £85 and they won`t last a year .!
Mine are £65 inc post and better quallity and fit ..... now i know C&C are making at least 500% mark up on theirs and JK sell them for ....... no wait ..... wait set of 4 of the same poor quality £124 (http://www.justkampers.com/shop/bumper-overider-impact-strip-j15299.html ) sorry Josh thats taking the !@*# . £40 dearer than C&C for the same rubbish part ..... Now my math is shocking but thats what 8/900% mark up ???

  19. The problem is greed again. As prices go up companies want to keep the same profit margin so bump up their prices.

If, however, they swallow some of the increase, they would be substantially cheaper than all the other competition and as such have an increase in sales. The increase in sales would offset the loss the company took by swallowing the increased prices.
