Hi all. On @Lasty superior recommendations of getting another front beam, as mine has lots of welding going on with it, I have managed to get a ‘rust free’ beam from Arizona (apparently). The guy says it would be a good idea to drill a hole in each top mount and fill it with a rust stabiliser and wax oil to stop it internally rusting. If this is indeed a good idea, how would go about it after the holes are drilled? Would I just fill it with a product like a rust killer, or would I have to spray waxoil into it. If the waxoil, would I need a special sort of gun and compressor set up? I have a compressor but not an application gun thing. I guess grommits and silicone to refill the holes after. ( and wire brush the outside back to bare metal, etch prime and paint). Thanks.
Dynax S50 aerosols, plastic underseal bungs (eBay) in the holes. Make sure the drain "lips" at the bottom are clear.
Lips. Is that a condensation drain hole thing? Can’t tell on my old one, due to the build up of paint/ wax oil / Badger parts, etc…
Is there some sort of pipe, adapter on the aerosol? Is it a liquid that flows? or is it thick, like waxoil?
It comes with long thin hoses and diffuser at the end - in large aerosol cans. Its more liquid than waxoil - its great stuff tbh, just shake the can with vigour.
I don’t think you need to drill any holes. I’d clear the lips at the bottom and then blow out with an airline as best as poss. With the beam upside down and warmed with a hot gun spray in chosen wax product. Leave it to sit for a bit, turn it up the right way and warm it til a bit of wax runs out. what will you do for servo mount? I haven’t found a great solution for aftermarket RHD servo mount….
This. Should come with a half-metre(?) "wand". Just stick it in the hole, twirl it until the stuff runs out of the drain hole. Great stuff.
A lot of waxes have a rust inhibitor built in. You could warm the can first to make it thinner. Before you fit the beam you could wax it upside down as well
It's the best weather because the rust inhibitor wax gets into all the crevices before it cools down and/or the solvent evaporates.
A top beam tip from @Lasty is to remove the suspension arms, exposing the grease-clad bearings, then drag the whole lot down a gravel driveway
Yes. I agree . I don’t have it yet. Should be here next Thursday Ish. It gets pretty warm in my greenhouse, still. Good place for this sort of thing.
Bloke who sold it was a cock ... All paid for and collection arranged by that fine fellow @crossy2112 , when he arrived there it had been dragged down a gravel drive with the ends open ... Crossy kindly gave it a good internal power wash and before i fitted it early this year I gave I another good rinse out and treated it to new bearings.. Take a bow @mk2zetec , couldn't have tried less if you wanted to.... Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
