Just to be a bit of a bore and not getting involved in this fight. What is this compensator thing and where should I be able to find one on my van. Its a 79 converted panel, it used to have a servo but was taken off as it was fubar. Was wondering if this compensator would have been taken off at the same time as the servo.
the expense of fitting disc on the rear, could be argumental. i find my drums stop me very well, easily to maintain and adjust as required. you get problems with pads sticking then your stripping the lot down, or paying a technician a mortage to sort it. if i was going down this road i would get the red 9 design set up front and rear. i know the front set up is over 1600 quid. for the unit alone.
I was enjoying the to & fro between Zed & P Weeding. Please carry on & explain why I should or shouldn't get a Red 9 front end & rear discs ^-^
Which is why I just retro-fitted a late bay servo system to my "drums all round" prototype bay. The brakes were good anyway, but now they're ace. I don't quite follow the arguement that says you need to uprate the brakes if you have a meaty engine. Let's pretend you drive within the speed limit. So you can drive your std engine bay up to 70mph (eventually), or you can drive your 150bhp bay up to 70mph (more quickly). So which requires better brakes to stop it? Unless you have a habit of braking with your foot hard on the accelerator pedal it seems to me both vans will need the same brakes.
Main reason for me, is that I drive enthusiastically on B roads... so my brakes are uprated to combat fade... front discs are vented. and calipers are ally so they cool quicker and dissipate the heat better!! But I think we're getting to the point where we have to agree to disagree
I just potter along with the traffic, though I do like to know I could stop effectively if I had to in an emergency. Horses for courses.
Ok, found a non-turbo Porsche early 944 I can snatch the brakes off of for a good price, what all do I need to snatch? I know the obvious (brakes, rotors, calipers, brake lines) also will have to order the brake kit from Transporterhouse. What other parts will I need to pull off the Porsche to make this work on my 79 Bus??? Please advise! Need to know fast, driving to pull parts in a few days... SS
