When I was about 12 …1968 friends mum had one, I loved it. Seem to recall something wacky even then , was it an odd gearstick ( like Renault 4) or handbrake quirkiness. I know later Saab’s did you have to put ignition key in handbrake or something? Whatever a Saab 96 is stunning and was a great rally competitor.
They had a freewheel system, inherited from the 2 stroke 92 I think, so no engine braking, but good for left foot braking as you don't stall it. Certainly on later SAABs you locked it in reverse with the key, probably on the 92 and 96 as well.
I can't get a chopped about Amphicar out of my mind. It's got Studebaker Starlight front end but it's too small and I don't think that Studebaker made an amphibious car.
