“In my opinion the bearing damage is probably due to low oil pressure or the wrong size bearings resulting in low oil pressure.” If there is a big gap between the journal and the shell the oil *******es out without building up pressure.

 

Cam looks fecked to me, it's got a major flat on at least one lobe, looks like it's sheared over from the photo I can see

 

If you look at the vertical edge of the lobe it's not straight. It's flat in the middle and there is a defined sheared edge where the lobe has softened and splayed out. Perhaps a better focused photo would clarify

Right... I have decided to take the case and crank and other bits to someone who knows his onions... All my measurements seem to be not accurate so don't want to take the chance again I did few phone calls and there seem to be no one nearby the place I live However I spoken to Daz of Aircooled Performance and so far he quoted me with the best price for align boring and crank regrinding.. I think his on vzi as well and is recommended.. Thinking maybe someone on here knows him/heard of him? Also my main question is... It it really worth it doing?? I mean someone told me most types 4 are badly beaten and neglected over years and the labour, time, parts etc...and recommended reconditioned engine? I am just asking coz this option is out of question for me now as I am skint and if so I can only afford on budget build whiuch means case/crank work, new mains, big and small ends, have to stay with my jugs/ pistons ( replaced rings already), and obviously heads new valves/guides but will be doing them myself old fashion way What's your opinion guys? Should I go this way or maybe better to keep my bus off the road this season and save up so monies for new engine? ( if my marriage survived until...

 

Fix it - It'll be as good as any other reconditioned one.
