Chopped out the left sill front top hat and jacking point. When I tried to line up the new iner sill, it just didn't look right at the rear, so I measured the jacking point on the other side, and there was a 4cm difference in length (the old sill had been cut out around the top hat and jack point) so I've Chopped that one out too. Now, awaiting panels from Schofields, the pre welded jacking points so I can set the sill properly. Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk
Just remember, it will look a lot worse before it gets better! Ive been working on my doublecab for a while now. side panels were rotting from the inside out. ended up doing pretty much everything. inner, outer sills. rear crossmember, middle cross member, jacking points (all of them) front crossmember. various bits of tophats, rear arches. I'll try and add a thread on it but it's been a mission. well worth it all thought
This is where I'm at at the moment. Some stuff tacked in to line everything up, today hopefully remove the rest of the floor behind the firewall then cut out a section of the rear top hat so I can get the Y section out as it needs a good looking at. Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk
As a fellow crew cab owner I’m following the Marmalade resto with great interest. Your welding skills are much better than mine. I got out of my depth twice and had to get pro help to get me out of trouble. I had similar issues (n/s sill and a section of cab floor) though I don’t think the rust was quite as bad as Marmalade. It's mostly the left-hand side makes me wonder if it was parked up against a damp wall, also doesn't help the fact that both windows were left open about 2cm both have an algae line across the glass. Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk
Managed to get the iner and middle sill welded in today, then made a start on cutting out the rear wheel arch. Also, I need to repair the bottom of the B post C post, and D is rotted at the bottom also. Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk
Just use a very sharp Stanley blade ideally in a scraper handle will take the line off without scratching although I would imagine reason was to keep some ventilation to stop inside getting completely mouldy
Some more progress over the last few days, I could only get a klokkerholm arch panel from Schofields as nothing else was available. Took me forever to rebuild the iner lip of the arch some crazy shapes up there. I think I'm going to need new heat exchanges too but what's the box thing on top of it as it looks like with it there you can't remove the rocker cover (I could be wrong as not tried) Also, the rocker cover has a hole in it. I have some from my 1600. Are they the same size on a type 4? Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk
The box thing is part of the Exhaust gas recirculation EGR , ( i maths e a spare) though lots of folks block the and remove them ,the rocker cover should come off with it on
well it’s still a common thing to remove on modern vehicles but I kept mine , it’s easy to delete , how’s the exhaust flange where the EGR bolts onto it ?
