Klokkerholm front wheel arches!

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by howard64, Aug 19, 2012.

  1. Anyone fitted Klokkerholm front wheel arches to their beloved?
I've got to replace both mine and quite honestly cannot afford the 500 squidleys being asked for the genuine ones. Are they a pain in the proverbial to fit?
Your thoughts, advice, memoirs and short stories please Ladies and Gents. :)

i used a repro outer skin and it was fairly crap. however, if you aint using og then you're going to need to do a bit of fettling to get them to fit
never heard of the klokkerhom ones, are they magic or something?

  3. Hi dog
VW Heritage are selling them as well as other repair panels under the 'Klokkerholm' brand. I've never heard of them myself...maybe they are magic!

  4. they are terrible quality

  5. I've fitted one of them, bought it from VW heritage and the fitment is very poor.
    Never again, lesson learned.

^ So is the construction and the material. :(
The pukka ones are in a different league and though pricey, still win out hands down - one of the few good panels available for your bus. I bent an prototype bay Klokk arch by mistake pushing it into position with my hands. You won't do that to the genuine ones. Chalk and cheese.

  7. What about those Alan Schofield parts, what are they like, all purpose made I thought.

Gary in the paintshop will now only use the genuine arches made for the Brazilian bays. The quality and fit speak for themselves.

I strongly recommend that you pop to places like Heritage and look at the ones they sell and compare. You will never know the difference until you feel the quality. The metal is thicker. The fit is better. I was amazed at just how heavy the better ones are compared to the cheaper ones.

  11. What are the part form arches like to fit? compared to the complete ones

  12. I've not used them yet, so I can't comment... but as long as you clamp them up well before you weld them together, then they should be as good as factory spot welded ones!!

  13. I just tilted a repro Klockerholm arch and it was awful! Lots of vice work and bending to sort out the creases and very light weight.

Benefit is that it looks ok now it's painted and fitted and was cheap, problem is that in 5 yrs I reckon I'll be fitting a new one!

Have to do passenger side next year and will buy genuine without a doubt

    Cheers
    Ben

  14. You could always buy a genuine panel cut from a rust free californian inport. They usually go for £150 ish.

  15.
  16. Cool Air are getting in another source for these arches this week, priced between Klokkerholm and genuine arches, i'll let you know what they are like

  17. I have a genuine complete arch for the passenger side, just need 1 for the drivers side, if they dont come back in stock soon i will go for the part form ones
