Do you mean an iPad you can connect to the internet only or one with a SIM to enable you to make telephone calls and access the internet whilst you are mobile?

What is your current phone, out of interest?

Simple reason, with mine, I can use my iPad and connect it to my iphone when no wireless network is available & use the iphone connectivity - I think its called a personal hotspot.

Other may be able to offer better solutions!

  4. Three options

    1. buy an ipad air 2 with built in cellular - you just get a data sim for it from o2/Vodafone, ee etc (http://www.apple.com/uk/shop/buy-ipad/ipad-air-2/64gb-space-grey-wifi-cellular)
    2. buy an ipad air 2 with wifi and tether it to your mobile phone. via a personal hotspot. if you have an iphone then you need to make sure that you are on an idata network.
    3. buy an ipad air 2 and separate wireless dongle from any of the network providers (http://shop.ee.co.uk/broadband/4gee...NERIC - Wireless Dongle_p3497987369&WT.srch=1)

  7. I'd go with option 3, which is what we do at home, and it works fine, as well as giving you more flexibility that having the SIM in the iPad. Check the quality of the mobile data coverage in the area(s) you want by checking the mast data: http://www.sitefinder.ofcom.org.uk/

    Exactly. lol

  9. Or if you fancied something a little less proprietary you can go for an android based tab like Samsung.

Tethering via mobile is one thing I know is a thing of the past unless you spend mega money on Gbits's. I had thought I'd do this and keep the laptop to make things simple. Maybe I just need an up to date phone and worry about Ipad later.

So what phone? Feck, feck, feck, I hates all the choice, I don't have time for comparing endless choices.
What's a good deal for newbie phone with internet and a reasonable size screen with a good deal on monthly data?
    Back in an hour...

  13. Go to Carphone Warehouse and see what you like?

  14. I'm computer illiterate got iPad best thing I've done, when I'm on site down manuals of 40yr old commercial boilers, pumps etc made my life a lot easier at work,it's all I use oo TLB

  15. Im fortunate in a way that I end up with a works mobile. Invariably I don't know how it works. Now got ipad and use wifi where poss. My phone of course does internet but if wifi not available and i want internet I use my phone (which is not an iphone) to hot- spot (its a Nokia Lumia Windows phone and the function is called internet sharing) its secure and quite reliable. That said Im not paying for it and don't know the costs but I can use my laptop this way too. Ipad is just easier to start using and lasts longer battery-wise.

  16. If your phone is really from 1995 :) then it should not matter if you go for an iphone or android (Samsung, HTC etc) as tech has moved on considerably... for the better.

All the latest phones have internet capabilities, I would go for an iphone as I am an apple fanboy...

Just make sure the network package includes data as well as voice. Expect to pay between £15 and £30 a month. and get the phone free...

Keep your phone, buy an ordinary (cheapish) iPad and park beside a McDonald's or have a coffee or a beer in a pub and use their wifi. Once you've got a final location that's the time to start sorting out your own wifi.
Contrary to popular belief the world doesn't stop turning if you're out of contact.
Oh, and calm down. :) It WILL all be ok.

  18. That means he will have to start actually either answering his phone or, indeed looking at it to see if hes missed calls ......culture shock!

  19. Giffgaff is really good for both phone prices and monthly costs.

We needed a phone urgently when T-Mobile decided to cut off my son's mobile when he was at university due to their own incompetence so tried Giffgaff..
