I thought these two articles were interesting from the economic point of view http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/...-the-UK-facing-up-to-economic-domination.html http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/new...-companies-decline-to-sign-pro-EU-letter.html
Serious question. Our system isn't perfect, but a lot are much worse. What system would you like to see? Reasonably brief and non-party political answer please.
There's only so much I can be bothered to read in one post, @vanorak is a bit of a serial offender in the long post department!
All nations would need to buy into it which will never happen but these guys could be onto something: https://www.thevenusproject.com/resource-based-economy/
I'm not sure you could ever get a fair system. The current government claimed a landslide victory at the last general election, with a clear mandate from the people. But the actual figures show that only 24% of the eligible electorate voted for them. So 76% of people didn't want them.
More people would join in if their vote actually meant something? There are to0 many constituancies that are nailed on one way or another for our system to be meaningful. If you want to effect anything, bad luck unless live in a swing seat. That is not democracy IMO. Some form of proportional representation might re-engage people like myself who CBA to vote in an area that's been Concervative (with a huge majority) since the beginning of time itself. For the record I'd feel the same in a large majority constituency whatever the colour.
The EU argument is getting caught up in all kinds of protectionist sentiment that we would be better off not trading internationally. North Korea is just an extreme example.
I've not heard either side claim we'd be better off not trading internationally: Just that we don't need to be part of the EU to trade internationally....
Extreme I agree but most of the rest of the world is not in the E.U, Apart from us the E.U is now the sick man of the modern world, why do we want to be a part of that when most of the rest of the modern world is in better shape, The E.U is Jobless ,bankrupt and non accountable and keeps needing bailing out, It's a failed experiment and is'nt doing us any favours on any level
Who has said that then? One view is that we could after a period of sorting ourselves out be considerably better off without having to be involved with european trade deals that have a greater benefit for other EU countries (not the UK) when it comes to forging those deals and partnerships with the rest of the world. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/...-the-UK-facing-up-to-economic-domination.html and a number of other factors It really is scare mongering when Cameron's best shot this morning is that mobile phone bills might go up.
WHAT??? I might need to get my first ever mobile phone next week, so for that reason, I'm voting in!!
Comments on this thread about protecting our industry from competition, without considering that protectionism works two ways and not just one.
