  5. well I dont want to step on any toes but the RX8 can be a fragile beast. This car has the essential service history which is vital DONT buy one without. However some cars can suffer from starting (especially when hot) problems even with history and engines frequently lose compression on low mileages as well as high. We do however have a chap coming in for service every year with well into 100000 miles.

The main problem with them is that since the £500 a year tax was introudced the value plummeted, this makes them affordable to the "yoof" and so hence they are not looked after correctly and go bang left right and centre.

Personally, I would rather guide my father into my mother than buy one... but they are a phenominal drive and loads of fun - just have the wallet ready if they go wrong. Even simple things like coil packs, plugs etc are hugely expensive, and if you heve low compression (which can only be tested with the right equipment) then the engine is scrap. To rebuild the engine is well over £1000 in parts just for apex seals, side seals etc and more than likely the chamber walls will have picked up and be scrap.

If you can swallow £500 RFL each year, and 23mpg no matter how you drive it then they are good fun.

  17. This is ******el engines in a nutshell.
Girl at work has one, if she stops for petrol, which is very frequently, it won't start until it cools down.
It went through a spate of not starting at all, requiring new starter, plugs & coils. If they don't start first go, can't try again as it's flooded.
    It's only done 60k.
