  1. I would be more worried - seriously - about the opening and closing of the engine lid slowly sawing its way through that mains cable...

  3. I thought it was turning up with a roll of cable under your arm, about three hours after every other trade arrived on site. Then proceeding to drill and smash holes everywhere taking absolutely no notice of the guides for notching and drilling joists. Throw the cable through the holes in a spaghetti mess then feck off by 3pm and leave the plumbers to tidy up all your mess.

Well I’m guessing this must be in the regs cos it’s how every electrician I’ve ever met has worked.

  4. Don't forget carefully measuring the depth of conduit in the walls, so the plasterer's left with 0.05 microns of plaster to put over the top.

Which, to be honest, doesn't matter a jot if it's all rippled and uneven because the decorator will deal with everybody's mess anyway!

  13. Yep, my skin and a long-time in the industry says I'll take my chances based on hands on knowledge and cutting through bullMarmite 'regs' written by academics.

  14. Whereas the only guidance plumbers seem to use is a rolled-up Screwfix catalogue...

  18. Well what a crock of uninformed Marmitee!theres a right way of doing it and then.....every other way! You takes your choice, and the risk. Mattys write up is free advice. Id take it myself!

  19. What parts are uninformed? There is no right way or wrong way, if you want to stick a portable extension lead set up in then you can, if you want to copy the methods of coach builders then you can.

I love the way tradesmen (and women!) Lash out at each other! Why can't they work in harmony to get the job done effectively and efficiently like or members of parliament - oh hang on . . .
