Hook up on your van

After this weekend at Techenders I decided my van needs to be a bit more camper friendly in inclement weather. I think hook up may be the way to go. I’ve got a hook up extension I can poke through my window but maybe a permanent hook up is better.

Thing is I don’t want to make a hole in the van. I’ve seen some T4/5 ones with the hook up connect by the rear lights etc, would this work with a T2 with rear engine? I can’t imagine any problems with stinky petrol and electric cables!

Has anyone got such a thing on a T2 please? :)

  2. Mount it underneath behind one of the jacking points, it's a common place to put it if you don't want a hole in the side of the van:thumbsup:

Cheers, is that where yours is? Also I don’t want to put the inside clever stuff on the van wall so guess it can go on the front of the r&r bed wood? :)

Mines plumbed in through a hole in the side of the van and into a fuse thingy in the wardrobe, but I think I saw @Ermintrude has hers on the inside of the noisy cupboard door. I’m taking a guess that it then goes up through the spare wheel well?

A purpose built hole, or an excess of rust?! ;). I wondered about the fuse board as I’ve got no cupboards apart from the bed I guess the cable would have to come through the floor? Maybe in the engine bay but as mine seems a bit petroly I wasn’t sure of safety.

That’s reminded me of the cheers and tears of heater working on the way home from T/E. Cheers - nice and warm, tears- but petrol and engine stinky! :)

This is where mine is and where I used to fit them or on the side of the jacking point when I did vans the only downside is it can be a bit awkward to plug in without getting dirty knees

  7. it is and no need to drill holes as it mounts off one of the tail light screws :)

Ive found the Just Kampers hook up kit really good and works spot on (and fits perfectly well)

  9. Mine goes into the side of the van, it's a factory Westy so was like that from new.

Cheers for replies folks. I shall go and check out the van then probably return asking for photos of yours :)

  11. To be fair @Merlin Cat wouldn't need to get on her hands and knees to reach under the van.......:D

    Ha, cheeky!
A nice plastic covered hole..... although quite possibly hiding an excess of rust! :D

  14. That's where a PO had put the one on ours - out of sight and not too open to road dirt - just a bit of a pain to crawl under to plug/unplug

Another vote for this. Fairly simple to fit, though we did still have to make a small hole, with a grommet to stop it eating into the wire, in the floor under the bed to feed the wire through for fitting on the rear jacking point.

  19. I used a kit from extreme vw and was easy to do.
Mounted connector behind rear jacking point, removed grommet from floor so no drilling required and then ran cables from that to battery and up front to lights and radio..

  20. Mines on the jacking point. Consumer unit fusey thing under the r&r bed.

You just need to remember to pull out one of the floor mats to kneel on before connection/disconnection to avoid the muddy knees issue.

If i was doing it again though i'd prob try to get something in to the og westy flap door thing that has the usa style plug still in it.
