Well I'm broke down !! Engine starts and ticks over ok but misfires when reved or under load drove 90 miles with no issues and suddenly misfire starts It's a 73 bay 1600 with twin weber carbs electronic ignition Carry a fair amount of spares so I've tried new coil, plugs, plug leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm, even took of dizzy with electronic ignition and reverted to points ,set timing ,battery and altanator ok now I'm stuck can't think of anything else any ideas ? Thanks adrian
Possibly a petrol issue , any fuel in tank , is pump pumping it out What are the symptoms now , wont it start at all .?
Same issue with electronic and points ignitions carried as spare old dizzy and have swaped it back to points to see if it cured misfire but no difference still doesn't rev Thanks Adrian
The head(s) will likely be cracked. First check - If it's got "louder" in the engine bay with noise from carb while mis-firing, inlet valve is stuck. If it backfires through exhaust, exhaust valve. If that's doing either as described, narrow down check might help is pull off 1 HT lead in turn, run and rev, put lead back, try next lead. For the good ones, it will run same (albeit lumpy) through the revs. For the bad one it'll get worse as you rev. Have you got far to go?
you could pop a rocker cover off to see if a valve adjuster has come loose or even if you can see the valve sticking
It looks as if its misfiring on all cylinders tried pulling leads off and it runs equally as bad on all cylinders exhaust smells of unburnt petrol ticks over as normal revs normally at low revs then chronic misfire at medium to high revs Adrian
Interesting You've already swapped all the bits that would cover this I think. Then again maybe best not listen to me today as I just got back from hospital a couple of hours ago where I was doolally with blood poisoning...
I've just took the rocker covers off and checked that all the valves are free and there's no problems there no chokes fitted on my twin carbs it's got me scratching my head Adrian
Sorry, missed the twin carb bit. I don't suppose the linkage adjustment has come loose. It would tickover fine resting on the stops...
Sounds like you've covered all the bases!! The unburnt fuel in the exhaust gases sounds like a bit of a clue to me!! As davidoft says, try a jumper wire to the positive to the coil, but also check the battery earth, and the gearbox earth strap!! Where have you broken down?
Agree fuel, not firing, electrical - glad it's not another stuck valve. He's somewhere 90 miles from Darlington, so if he's heading north he's just outside your house. If he's heading south he passed para 50 miles ago. Paul Weeding - can you give Laurie a bell, he wants to come and pick up Para's engine and lost your number.
