  1. Have you seen this?

it's an EU proposal only..... they are going mad on the early site. i doubt it will happen.

  3. A mate of mine posted this on my FB page... I don't see how they can pass a law that will basically shut down multi-million pounds worth of businesses...

just think how many people would loose their jobs by shutting down the car modification market

    exactly paul

  5. just think of the business generated in a rescission putting back to stock all those modified vehicles

where as people might be putting off getting work done on their vehicles for better times

all of a sudden if they want to use their vehicles they must get this work done

there are going to be some very busy people making lots of money and the tax man will get his share

can you see the likes of T2D turning work away as all they can do is lower ?

i think it applies to mot exempt vehicles which i posted about earlier in the year , people were up in arms about that re safety etc, there will have to be some leeway built into the legislation as its very difficult to get certain og items for 70 year old rollers and jags and lets face it no one listens to us but they only need a word in the right ear from a in the clique historic Bentley owner and there will be proviso's built in .

  7. Like stated above there is some place that have passed it over here, :'(
Hell i have fear every time i work on any of my projects the the inspector's will drive by & see what i have & issue my a ticket, our bus is in violation of the law because we don't have the licence plate fastened to the bus --it's sitting on the front wind sceen because the bumper is off & waiting to be put back on after the paint is finished,

  8. This will NEVER happen. Its just some bureaucrats (likely belgian ones) floating ideas. Ignore it.

  9. This is a real risk. If you read the motorcycle press they cover it regularly and the threat of nlegislation has not gone away. There is talk of legal challenge as there is no safety or other basis proven to support such a move and it will have the massive economic damage that others have said.

Motorcycle News and many other publications have campaigns going encouraging readers to lobby their MP and MEP to oppose it. The world is slowly going mad.

  10. One thing I hate is governments telling me what I can and can't do. Telling me not to go round murdering people is fine. I accept that. But telling me stupid things like I can't do this and that to my own motor vehicle just isn't on. Who do they think they are? Is it anything to do with all this Co2 nonsense (?), which hasn't even been proven as heating up our little planet and making a bit of ice melt. I see, this is an EU directive. The quicker we come out of the EU the better. Serves me no purpose at all, apart from getting right up my nose. All these restrictions are typical of others which only serve to hold us back. Stop this, stop that. Just rediculous. They don't have this nonsense in China or Brazil. No coincidences there.

  13. Laws like these are only a pain if you obey them. I selectively ignore the stupid ones like these and the law can take a hike.

  20. Would the part about modifications tie in with the final part about the Certificate of Conformity?

I suppose that our vehicles did have Type Approval certification back in the day, but that's only to match the requirements of the member state where the vehicle was sold new (for UK - MPH speedo, RHD, seat belts, etc) - would it have been any more detailed than that?

What about personal imports from the US - the UK wouldn't know that sealed-beam headlights were required when new, or CA-specific emissions regs, etc.

Seems much to broad a scope currently to make into law - and as mentioned, would anyone know what a 1911 DeDion Bouton would've come with originally? The company doesn't exist anymore, does it? You can't go from owner's club records as they couldn't be marked as 'official'.

Hmm, maybe they're thinking about adding Constructions & Use regs to the MOT?
