    No, not that type :):)

My lawn is looking shocking nowadays, it used to be a lovely weed free green lawn, now it's full of dandelions, some purply coloured creeping kind of weed and other various none grass type things..and not very green

Can anyone reccomend a good feed and weed type product to inject a by of life into my lawn ?

Our lawns f!=-d, just got Green Thumb in to do a program of sorting it out, works out about £3.50 a week, when it's sorted I'll look after it better :)

I used to pay them and it was lovely - I stopped once it was how I wanted to save a few quid and it went downhill from there , it would be nice to know what they but I guess they use different stuff for different lawns

Looks worse at the moment, it's gone black, they're comming tomorrow to scarify, I've just bought a decent used petrol mower off ebay for £70 so that'll help!

As far as weed control is concerned, any products that you can buy 'over the counter' in your local garden centre will be 'watered down' safe versions of those products that companies like Green Thumb use. Even the relatively well known and readily available stuff like Round Up has a commercial generic version that is stronger and therefore more effective. That's why Green Thumb's efforts will be better, but you will pay for their expertise. For me to be able to spray herbicides as part of my job, I had to take a 2 day course plus a half day assessment and it cost near on £300 ten years ago - I imagine it's gone up a bit since.
If you don't want to get involved in paying the pros to do your lawn, avoid weed and feed granules... they are a jack of all trades and master of none, to coin a phrase from my mother! You'd be better using a specific moss killer and some hard graft with one of those fan rakes, a specific weed killer (dandelions are remarkably hard to kill despite what the ads on TV will have you believe), and then once that's done, apply a grass tonic / feed and consider throwing down some seed to bulk it out a bit.
Sorry I can't recommend any specific brands, I tend to only have experience of commercial stuff (and my lawn at home is shocking!)

  10. Get chickens to scarify it and fertilise it;) but don't let them dust bath on the lawn.[IMG]

  11. Rip the lot up and have it re-turfed! Seriously considering having this done to ours - it's a disaster area...

  13. As @snotty says, best thing is to re turf it.

Why spend money and chemicalize your old worn out lawn full of weeds.

My neighbour had this and returfed it and now its green, growing fast and its all grass.

  16. I'm down in the sunny south east and it's getting a bit late for turf. buy direct from the grower if you have one near you. it's a lot cheaper and tends to be fresh rather than the stuff thats gone yellow and dry.

  18. Another neighbour has spent loads over the years with Green Thumb trying to sort out the weeds and moss issues. It still looks bad and not much grass left after killing and raking off yet more moss.

  19. Dig out dandelions using two pronged fork ting as they have long roots n spread easily with the seed heads blowing in the wind , others like daisys n clover , they can look ok and have green leaves so no big deal really as you cut every week . Let grass grow in winter it will hold off the moss , rake and airate is good for it too then goood feed only, i find feed n weed stuff can burn the good grass too if your not careful .

  20. I have only a grass verge outside my house now as I cleared the front lawn years ago and planted with shrubs and perennials and now pretty much takes care of itself. The verge area I leave alone as its now mostly wild flowers, good for bees.

The local council keeps spending money (wasted) on close mowing road verges when the wild flowers are blooming, they only need to cut verges at road junctions where visibility is an issue.

Moss is worse than weeds on garden lawns and it takes a hold when folks keep cutting their grass too short and the grass is weakened as it doesn't have enough leaf to thrive. A garden lawn is usually tough field grasses, not bowls green varieties.
