Reviews I read reckoned he looked like "a deranged hairdresser"... Hats off to Dave Grohl for trying to play with every band on the bill, tho'
Unfortunately for Sham 69 they sort of had an unwanted following of skinheads ( i was there by the way ) and they took over the stage whilst he was playing ..all got a bit tribal ...folks started chucking cans bottles at the skinheads on stage for taking it over . And what do skinheads do best, the retaliation started, Pursey clears off quite rightly so . Can't remember if this malarky carried on for the rest of the festival ,too long ago now and being off my rocker . Mind i think what didn't help to crank up the violence was this guy turning up every morning in tranny pickup ...filled to the brim with gallon containers of 8.5% scrumpy at 55 p a gallon . There were big groups of differing cult fashions all at one place ...Punks , skinheads , hippys , and there were still Hells Angels knocking around ...a big sort of change over era . The Thames Valley Police were forever dragging people out of the Thames who foolishly attempted to swim to try and reach the other side in a toxic state no doubt . It doesn't look like it is moving fast but it bloody well is .
"Hairpiece in the Wind" was always my favourite. Didn't Barry Turpentine write all the words for him?
He did. I think there was a break where they didn’t write together but most ( maybe all ) of the big hits he wrote with Bernard Tarpaulin
