With all the rises in past years and now another today i wonder how many of us are really struggling, i don't mean jumping on the bandwagon of saying you can't afford to heat the house (while you sit there with a fag and a pint watching sky and eating a takeaway) we have our heating on and have made cuts in other places before we go cold, i've always paid my bills before i've bought luxuries but i'm struggling to wonder what to trim back on the more these rises happen. I'm gonna start another thread on heating that i need advice on as well so any heating bods i'd appreciate your input.

its getting ridiculous, while most companies are struggling, cutting wages and prices to keep afloat, fuel and energy companies are escallating their prices by the day :(

  3. It happens every year so I still find it strange that people are still suprised by the rises.

  5. It's really starting to bite now - cheap energy is a thing of the past. TIme to throw another jumper on for me, I think.

  6. I have noticed a massive change since moving house .... the old house had not heating and drafts left right and centre... we used to use an electric oil heater to warm the house and spend a fortune on electricity ...

since moving the new house has a much better energy rating - no drafts and good insulation - the monthly DD costs have prob gone down (even tho its a bigger house) ... but where we saved there - the water rates and everything else went up ...

i sometimes find you simply cant win ....

but - my advise is .... insulate and make the most of keeping the house warm once its heated up ... then you can turn it off and save money that way

We are about to spend £6000 on windows to save on heat lost so hopefully we won't be spending as much this winter on gas and looking into that thermal wrap render stuff.

  14. oh , its ok, they know there will be 3-6 days of banner newspaper headlines , govt. ministers(snake oil salesmen) speaking piously re how they "feel our pain" and "promising to do something???" about this, they clergy will have there say ,as will those who speak for the elderly AND THEN!!!!>>> yipee ,back to theusualville , end off that non protest!till they do it again. m.thatcher took an industry which the public had paid for and so owned , re parcelled it and sold it back to us ! and so screwed everyone >this once great nation is a banana republic > the rich keep getting richer , and poor ol black jo? well, he"s still picking cotton"

  15. To save on the electric, get LED bulbs where you can. They're expensive but save a LOT of electricity. We replaced 50W halogen spots with 8W LEDs, so 6 x less power. You would be surprised how much power your lighting uses.
