Fresh air vent speakers

  1. the left and right balance doesn't affect the time it takes for the signal to reach your ears, but I think your central seat modification sounds excellent. If you're struggling to reach the pedals, have you thought of using lateral shoe extenders, or employing a small child to operate as required?

  2. I use these in my van to give me a 432 Hz pitch shift.....they double up as a washing up bowl and goesunder....

They're so light and unobtrusive, I sometimes forget I'm wearing them...not unlike a christmas cracker paper crown

Well you've opened a can of worms now. I've just been out to check my daily drive and I've discovered that the door speaker on the passenger side is also further away from my ear than the one on the driver's side  That's a Fiat. Are all car manufacturers fobbing us off with speakers at different distances from our ears.

I've sent an email to Toyota asking how they intend to rectify this issue  but on the way to my computer I discovered that the situation is just as bad in my wife's car. That's a Fiat. Are all car manufacturers fobbing us off with speakers spaced different distances from our ears.

Quite how I've never noticed this sorry state of affairs before defeats me, :( but thanks for pointing it out.:)

On a more positive note I experimented by shouting at a car window. Thankfully I've discovered that glass reflects sound so at least the speakers pointing at the windows won't be a problem.

how about going to a scrap yard and search vehicles with speakers fitted in a similar location , merc, s or bmw etc generally use good qulity and probably suitated to location . plus you would probably get them for a few quid as they are mostly crushed at the end of the day

  5. I can see your dilemma here Sandybay - a stern letter should suffice!!

Just as a little note, if you had time alignment adjustment (not a balance control) then it wouldn't matter about the positioning of the speakers and a 6" speaker is generally a mid bass and not a sub.

@vanorak I'm getting there with the kick panels, the moulds have been made and have come out really well, so hopefully get the first pair started early next week.

    They'll be alot like this....

  7. probably the best location for a bay......it's another of those jobs I keep putting off....I'm planning to make some angled enclosures high up on the cab door panels as well....be really interested to see how well these panels work....

how do offset speakers work in a left hooker? i'm right eared and therefore would i benefit from facing backwards whilst driving using an elaborate mirror like device to see forwards?

I wouldn't worry too much. If your van is like mine, to hear the sounds above the racket the bus makes it has to be so loud it's unpleasant. I only use mine if I'm stuck in traffic.

I am worried though, it's kept me awake all last night. With a 0.0034 millisecond delay to the sound in my left ear will my listening pleasure be ruined?
Will I still be able to enjoy my Herbie Hancock recordings?
I may have to get rid of the T2 and buy a concert hall.

  12. This is a great informative thread with the right amount of geekiness but just wondering if anyone else has just stuck a portable Bluetooth speaker (or several) in their bus and used the 12v to keep these charged up? I just had to buy the Mrs one of these and for not a lot of cash you can get them lasting 12+ hours on a single charge (plus run them whilst charging ) and then can move them into the back / awning etc if required?

  13. Damn that infernal 0.0034 millisecond delay, it always ruins guitar solos for me...

  14. Just listen to The Beatles when driving, Ringo was always way more than 0.0034 m/s out of time so it won't be a problem:D

  15. This is the reason I listen to jazz in van. Most of the time I mistake the van for the music.

  16. You may well mock gentlemen, but believe me, when you've heared even a half decent head unit set up properly, you'll appreciate the difference...

don't take my word for it, but if you want a simple experiment, put on a track that's been well produced, set your fader to zero, balance to zero, and sit and listen in the driver's seat with your eyes shut....now crouch in the walkthru and repeat the process....;)

left pic shows un aligned, right pic shows the effect of corrected time alignment...simples!

Lovely thanks , I'll pop upstairs and get my mocking head on.

What, in a 40 year old delivery van?

Absolute nonsense, if you alter the timing for the drivers ears it must, by definition, be even worse for the passenger.

    Mock over.

On a more serious note, if you'd read the thread from the beginning you'd know that the main reason for putting speakers in the dash was aesthetic, a definite case of form over function.
