Ok - I can't compel you to care, that's your choice.

If what I post casts a different light on it for someone else, fine with me.

Is that the same water companies that were owned by us, then sold back to a few and now owned by the French?

  3. You`ll be made most welcome ...

I had one dodgy evening when i wandered into a very `Southern` small village pub and the locals made a point of finding out my business and why i was in the village . i just had a polite chat , told them i was on holiday , yes , in the van with English plates , supped up and left . Got back to the van and the farmer advised me to leave the next day as `there was a problem` with my number plates

That was just after the Good Friday agreement so things were a bit jittery . Other than that it`s a great place , been dozens of times and the Irish just want to chat

    :hattip:

Arnt the Welsh people, just the Irish, that couldn’t swim?

Can you just close this thread as its descended into migrant/welsh/scottish bashing, none of which is remotely related to people holidaying in France.

I wonder how much Yorkshire paid for the Severn bridge? Doesn't come anywhere near Barnsley!

Severn Bridge was paid for by 40 years of tolls on the way in to Wales, further stunting investment which is why you have a property bubble in Bristol.

Just as the 2nd Severn crossing was paid for by 25 years of tolls.

    £6.60 for a car......what’s the Humber bridge £1.50 for a car?

Original bridge cost £8m....the Severn Bridge Company announced yearly profits of £43m in 2016.

Westminster government finally scrapped the toll charge in 2018 as it would have given the Welsh Government a ‘cash cow’.

You couldn’t make this s**t up.

Just extended my stay on a site at Wareham, so close (ish) to Poole and Studland bay.....only the weekends seem to be an issue... could always use a Travelodge for weekends...they are doing £29 rooms again.

Fair enough! The only problem is that now the taxpayer is lumbered with a 50 year old bridge!

  19. Anyway Taff
When I travel to Spain myself and the general public are most at risk at my local Airport at Bournemouth,
When I board the Ryanair flight I sit where possible on my own,
It’s not as if I can’t because the flights are half empty ,
I don’t eat drink or P155 on the flight
When I get to spain I am usually met by a wall of police, government personnel wanting my documentación that’s before I even get to passport control,
I then collect my hire car using the key and go system,
I then drive to my house in inland Andalucía
Not Beni or anything like that,
I abide by any local restrictions that are in place or risk a fine of 100€ just for not carrying a face mask
I go about my business as usual,
On my return to the Uk
    It turns to crap
I have to stay inside for a fortnight after the day I come back, I usually get an early flight back and land around 8am
So I tend to go to as many pubs and shops as I can before I have to lockdown ,
Now last week I was in Cornwall
    On a campsite
I checked in at reception wearing my mask
The lady was astonished that I was wearing a mask,
She said blimey most of them don’t
    Anyway ,
    Nobody cares here
Nobody is going to enforce anything
    And nobody Gaf

anyway taff you carry on believing what you read in your paper Nipper :)

The humber bridge was a political decision. It was never going to be used enough to make enough money to pay for it's self.
The local MP at the time looked like he was going to lose his seat. So he promised if he got back in, he would make sure the bridge got built.
A politician making good on a promise
The company that built it was British bridge building company. It was made up of the three largest building companies at the time. It was worth the grand total of £3 :)
They bought and stockpiled the steel and sold it back to themselves over the build duration, at...........you guessed the inflated price at the time.
My uncle worked on top off the towers spinning the cables that hold it up.
