    Whereabouts are you going?

We may see you in passing

  3. A campsite half way between Bakewell and Buxton. Beltonville Farm I think it's called! I'm looking forward to waving at other campers!

  7. Unfortunately I can't do Techenders.

  8. I went away last weekend - it was dire , all just stay at home

On a serious note , you`re not going to outer Mongolia . If you forget the mechanical basics that could be an issue but anything else can be bought ...

    ENJOY

  9. Apparently not love according to the Beatles. But I’m not convinced when I see an 80yr old billionaire with a 25yr old.

This /\/\/\ and check the spare, the tool kit for changing over, spare fan belt, and ear plugs (against the kids, not the van.....)

I still remember our neighbours bought a bay, one of the tyres that had cracked on long standing stationary decided to go pop at 30mph about a mile from home on the way back.

Its not the age so much as standing still with the weight in the same place - the tyres need work to keep the plasticisers moving around and not develop hard patches. Leaving my Peugeot 307 standing for weeks at a time I keep noticing the strange bumps coming from the tyres until they settle down after a few hundred yards.

Eek  this has me worried as it is the same tyres from last time it was used. But then... I put it through MOT recently just to be on the safe side. You’d think they’d pick anything dodgy on tyres there right? o_O

  15. It`ll be fine , just bimble along and enjoy the ride

  18. freeze a large bottle of water or take some of those blue ice packs, that will keep your cool bag plenty chilled for a weekend

Yes, MOT should pick up gross problems but still something to bear in mind . Its why they reccomend taking the wheels off and blocking up the vehicle for long term storage. If you have a spare it will be in better condition at that age as a result.

The MOT tyre checks are extremely basic; tread depth and major cracks is about it. Tyre age isn’t checked nor flat spots, or even pressure. Tyres suffer from UV damage, harden with age and become more prone to blowouts. If they’re more than 8 years old I’d change them, especially if they have had little or no use for several years.
