Fed up of the restrictions now.

  1. Social isolation and quarantine is not new. If you Google Eyam and The Great Plague, you will learn that even so long ago the people realised that The Plague was being spread by folks moving from place to place and contact with other people. Eyam village in the Peak District was key to halting the spread of the plague to northern towns and villages and the folks of Eyam put themselves into lockdown to save many thousands of lives.

  3. Just a few words on the Oxford vaccine that is currently undergoing the approval process. Our youngest son, who's an immunologist, rang up yesterday and my wife asked him whether he would have the vaccine. He's not in any risk group but his answer was an unqualified yes.
He works with the people who developed it on a regular basis and rates them very highly.

  4. I'd like to know that it has been tested thoroughly first. I remember going to the Gulf in 1991 and before we did having 6 injections for various things including bubonic plague and anthrax. Sometime after Gulf War Syndrome appears one of the thoughts being the vaccines had a contribution.

  5. I'll ask him his views next time we speak.
My own guess would be it was caused by the untested combination of them although I seem to remember that depleted uranium has also been blamed.

I know that we have sent people out to fight for our way of life on several occasions. But those people generally obey their commanders in order to succeed. They gave up their little freedoms for the good of the country.
That is what I mean by "little freedoms", the insistence on a right to everything, even when that is not for the good of the country. We have gained many rights, but we havent paid back in obligations.

All civilisations are based on some rights, some obligations and a balance, and a set of unwritten rules, which when they are abused leads to failure.

  7. DU has also been blamed but no one is 100% sure. I remember getting the vaccinations and asking if it was OK to have them all at the same time, to be told who knows! Immediately after loads of people had bad side effects, I remember being on duty but effectively incapacitated for a few hours and one guy got taken to hospital as his heart nearly stopped beating, others were fine.

  9. It's generally down to hours and hours of intensive training, having complete trust in the guy next to you regardless of their rank and working together like a machine.

  10. That's the trouble, people here don't trust the government. Sweden, no masks, no lockdown just social distance. Because they trust their Government so will comply (mostly)

how does having no rules to follow show they trust their government?

I have no reason to inherently distrust “the government “ I’ll never understand why people would automatically do so

It's not just the armed services. Engineers at Philips when I worked there were routinely given every shot in the book at once two days before being sent off to Indonesia or Africa or wherever. Nobody was happy about that but they were young engineers on the up so they sucked it up without complaint, their futures relied on saying yes to anything without question. A different set of pressures applied compared to the forces but the same result.

    Yes...and no.

Answer this. Do you think goverments of your adult (voting) lifetime have sought to best represent and serve the UK population and national interests, or their respective party's political ambitions?

A balance of both? One would hope for that balance to be tipped towards the former but is it? The present incumbants are whole heartedly proudly and publicly seeking to dismiss forever the very checks and balances that have ensured that they do represent all of our best interests. What's to trust?

  16. We were going to war against a regime believed to have a chemical and biological warfare capability, the engineers could resign but that wasn't an option.

  17. I’ve realised what a sad little life I lead. The restrictions have come in again and apart from being able to see my parents, I’ve not noticed a single difference. I don’t go to pubs, rarely to restaurants. I’ve no interest in shopping. If I do buy any tech stuff it tends to be on line these days anyway. I cut my own hair with clippers. I wasn’t planning a holiday this year as I wanted to get some much needed stuff done on my house. I’m a tradesmen, so I’m lucky enough to still be working, although a bit reduced.

I’d I’m totally honest I can’t say that I’ve really noticed this second lockdown at all, bar seeing my parents. They’ve restricted a load of stuff I don’t do anyway.

I don’t think the lock down is working judging by the amount of traffic on the roads and the amount of people about.

Most people I know are working as normal.
