  3. I'd love the luxury of the time to watch the whole thing, live, with the build-up and race and post-race. Fact is, I haven't. Highlights will do fine.

  5. we are normally camping weekends in the summer so used to watching the highlights sunday night

although i can see it back firing for F1 if a lot of people don't pay up for sky and stop watching F1 altogether

rallying used to be very popular but since it's not on the main channels anymore i don't know anyone that watches it anymore

  6. I've got sky HD I'm one of those mugs that pays for the full package so will get all the races. Not long now to wait.

I'm unsure if you will get a live feed off RTL on the net,but here is a link http://www.rtl.de/formel1/livestream/index maybe a delayed feed (like i-player) but i can confirm i have been and seen the local aerial fitter this morning while i walked the dog and he confirmed that with an old sky dish and a freesat box you can pick up RTL free to air in standard defenition perfectly legally, he also thinks he will be able to change the audio feed from RTL standard to pick up a english commentary but if not then you can use five lives feed so all is good, he is coming to do it Saturday morning, you can pick the freesat boxes up dirt cheap, B&Q are selling them for £25 i've been told, i got mine from Aldi http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/special_buys3_20473.htm when they did a camping set.

For the last couple of years I've been more and more religious about watching every second of the build up, listening to practice and watching the forum on the BBC. Whilst this was very good content and very entertaining I became a right bore on race weekends and got so little other stuff done (including the van)!!

I'm not going to run out and buy Sky, I don't agree with the Empire and don't think the current deal retains F1 as being free to air!!

So I'm going to enjoy my weekends doing interesting other stuff and try the Beeb footage... in HD on the Freeview HD TV i bought last year ready for this years BBC HD coverage, Doh!!

  12. I'm rubbish when it comes to this stuff and always end up paying a professional to do it. So, my local aerial and sat specialist is going to set it up, so that I get the very best RTL picture quality. Apparently, my old Sky dish is too small (at 42cm) and a larger one (60cm) is a much better bet. To supply all the equipment, instal, fit and tune everything in he's going to charge £150. I think that's very good. What would Sky have cost? Nearly £500 per year? I would have paid that much to my sat spec guy, just to get around having to pay Sky one penny.

I will keep you all posted and will come back and list the exact equipment the sat guy uses and how he does it. It's being installed next Wednesday.

£150! marmite a brick, you can get the bits for next to nothing if you look around, my guy gave me an old sky dish a while ago and the most i'll guess he will charge for aligning to rtl will be £20.... it depends on how far north you are to how big a dish you need i would have thought the one you have is fine but your guy needs the dollar....... the guy i use even managed to get a picture on a 30cm dish i had in that camping set, it's all about how precise his sat finding skills are and how good your line of sight to the satellite is, the bigger the dish the lazier the finder can be.

  14. It includes the box thingy too, as I've only got Freeview right now. I'm happy with £150 all in. And in the time looking around to find something cheaper I can earn £150. ;)

  16. I'd have signed up to sky by now if the van hadn't just cost so much. Will have it by the first race in ........ sh*t, better sign up right now!

  17. What I meant was it would take me hours and hours to find something cheaper, maybe a couple of days looking into it. That's how dumb I am - I just don't understand this technical stuff. Hence the 150 quid earning suggestion, for a whole day or two. ;)

    Grrrrrrr ;)

  18. And that's me signed up!

Hope none of you lot ever watch any 20th Century fox films or read anything printed by Harper Collins to maintain your high principles... And the BBC show is not independent to BBC - its made in conjunction with BSB...

I for one think Sky is the best thing since sliced bread. Currently sat nursing my still swollen plums, watching the footage on the new sky f1 he channel. Pukka shows kick off on 9th March at 8pm
    :)
