I guess lots of places were the same but Banbury was definitely a ghost town late night with curfews on the clubs. I remember going to a gig in Coventry too and that was the same.
That was recorded in Woodbine studios. I was there a week later with The Swinging Laurels (remember them? Thought not!) and the engineers was showing us his new multi £k box of tricks that made the background atmosphere. Ghost Town was the first time they'd used it.
@beatnick 1979 so not quite in the thread. This band was half our full time pub drinking/drugs/music rat-pack aged 16-20. The other half was a band I was in. Some of these were recorded locally, some are a Peel session. I played on 3 or 4 of them as a sort of session musician to fatten the sound out a bit, I never played live with them, I'd be the rubbish one! We were all teenagers. Singer/guitarist/song writer Rob carried on writing and recording until died last year (cancer), Steve the bass player has been Jools Hollands tour manager for decades, drummer went to art college then got married (house painter last time I heard). If you make it through this you'll see why they/I never really got anywhere! I can laugh now - great times. Actually, just play this one. The drummer was 14. Picture on video is unconnected.
No I cant see why. I did some stalking a while back and found you mentioned on a Lincoln site for punk stuff way back and obscure recording on Youtube Sounds great to me tbh! (anything under 3 minutes does it for me! that golden rule eh 3:01 and its basically prog rock)
Girlschool ! I saw them on a triple header with Tank, who were absolutely dire and Angel Witch, the reason I went. Kevin Heyburn FTW. I stopped to watch Kelly & the band for a couple of songs, but I was disappointed, not least with the size of their huge black gym knickers. And the Cure. I wasn't keen, but I found myself at art college the following year with the guitarist from the support band '...And Also The Trees' - Can you believe, they're still going? I'll finish with this. I never saw them play a live show, but I have one of the original 500 single pressings, complete with hand printed label & sleeve cut from a football poster.
Just sneaks into late 80s Seen a few time live the one in the brixton academy in the early 90s was a interesting experience for a Country bumpkin like me.
I saw them live at Sheffield City Poly student union (Nelson Mandela Bar) in 91. I remember at the time my mates were either not interested or not around so I went by myself. Still had a great night
