I'm on holiday at the moment and alternating between E5 and E10 ...just putting £20-30 in each time..... so I suppose I'm running on E7.5.

  2. None of the local stations round here stock Super unleaded so i filled the beetles tank up with E5 a couple of days before the change over. Should keep me going for a while. The nearest place i can find Super is 25 minutes drive away.
These are my two local stations .
£1.29 for unleaded and diesel here:

And its £1.369 just a hundred metres down the road here:

  3. Not sure if this has already been said, but:

No ethanol at all in their 99 Synergy Supreme (as long as you don't live in the SW, North Wales, North England and Scotland).

My fuel pump wore out on E5 and started leaking as it probably would have on other hydrocarbon mixtures. My fuel pipes were cracking up regularly so I went for a more ethanol proof solutions.
Vehicle fuel tanks were pinholing with water in them long before people added ethanol to fuel. It used to come down the air vents into the fuel station tanks or leak in from ground water into damaged storage tanks.

(in fact adding ethanol is a way of dissolving small amounts of water and getting it out of the tank by mixing in the ethanol then using the car)

  5. I just filled up with E10 for the first time yesterday and I couldn't tell any significant difference, maybe even ran slightly better tbh. Mine always seems to run best in hot weather anyway, so may be a placebo. It did get me thinking though about what the fuel in the States was at the time of my bus. It seems they have been running E10 for ages. Probably not as far back as 1978, but I did find this article from 1982 and it seemed the think 10% wasn't much of a problem back then. See page vii onwards. https://www.nrel.gov/docs/legosti/old/442.pdf
Lots of potential snake oil is appearing on the market, so I'm going to run it and see. Not going to pay extra for Super at the moment. As long as you have replaced fuel lines and keep inspecting regularly, but I think that's prudent anyway with an old car.

  6. I was using the bay for Work and have been away for a couple of weekends over the last few weeks and have put some E10 in and some E5 depending on what is available.

    It’s been a disaster really.

The rear nearside indicator stopped flashing and I had to give the light lens a good thump to get it going - can only be the E10I put in it.

  8. I bought £50 of Shell VPower (E5) last night, quite scary when you realize I only got just over 34 litres for that

Isn't that just over half a tank?

  10. 50l for an early tank I seem to remember.

  11. Out of curiosity, would my cross-over have an early tank then?

    Yes or No.

  13. One of those must be correct

PS Is that what is termed as a factually correct but mostly useless answer;);)

  18. Seriously be good to know, the gauge either reads full, not so full, nearly empty and next.... you're walking sonny, get yer can!

    Ask me how I know:rolleyes:

That behaviour is almost the opposite of the Late with aftermarket sender - reads not quite full, goes down over 100 miles to the orange sector, stays in the sector for 100 miles, and there is still room for about another 50-60 miles in the tank.

Mine has just failed until it is like the behaviour above - reading pretty full and then dropping off suddenly from half way, with at least 30 litres in the tank it shows empty.
