Don't fill the camper's fridge and larder before heading to Europe.

  1. Yep - most countries have a ban on importing meat etc . When we went to NYC 20 years ago one of our party was stopped when a sniffer dog picked him out of the queue. We thought it had smelled drugs - but no it was ham butties in his back pack.

Its probably for the best. After all we let the Foot and Mouth disease out of the biological research lab in Surrey a few years back .

I can still remember going to France when all those rules applied pre EU, but the Duty Free was EPIC! which was the compensation . Booze cruises with trolleys laden with fags and beer.

You were also limited to something like £50 cash, the rest had to be Travellers Cheques.

What would happen if you ate the ham sandwich before crossing the border and then threw up when you were in Holland?
    Would they confiscate the sick?

Travellers cheques!??!?!?!?!?? Wow. I think I’ve used them once, maybe twice in my life. What a load of old bollards. May as well have greenshield stamps or a Kay’s catalogue subscription! :)

Haha! yes, I used to love doing the booze and fags run over to France on the overnight ferry out of Portsmouth; the French hypermarkets always seemed very exciting when I was 18!

  15. My daughter informs me that you now can't dairy or meat into Switzerland and they have never been in Europe but the law changed when we left euro fun land .

  16. Its basically all animal products, including gelatine in sweets etc, milk and meat and some veg and plants. It applies to the whole EU.:mad:

  17. To be fair I'd rather take an empty fridge and fill it up at the local supermarche than fill it full of the usual Sainsbury's tosh ..
As for becoming increasingly isolated within the European community , if you think they were being awkward before with regulatory bananas etc just give it a year or two until the Euro politicians get their teeth into Brexit and punish the UK for being the naughty boy ....

  18. exactly why take cheese to France never understood that? Give it time and they will forget, is the picnic hamper raid happening in all countries or just the Netherlands?
