To be fair, the."new rules " are just the.old rules before we joined the EU.
Green cards, International drivers permits ... those were (are) the days.

  2. Jeez. On holiday taking English food, the tea and the bacon I can understand, now be honest, how long did your resolve last out, from the first drip of drool landing on the boulangiery window, to storming in and buying 3 of everything?

  3. A quick flash of your ham sandwich should do the trick...:p

The supreme irony of this is that there's a good chance that the ham came from Holland in the first place!

The UK is a net importer of pig meat, currently importing around 60 per cent of all the pork it consumes. The volume of these imports stood at 968,000 tonnes in 2015. Import levels have fluctuated slightly over recent years – since falling back in 2012, they have been increasing steadily year on year. Denmark is the dominant supplier, accounting for over a quarter of all UK pork imports. Together with Germany and the Netherlands, they account for 60 per cent of imports. The EU supplies virtually all the pork imported into the UK, due to the high import tariffs on pork from elsewhere.

On top of this, the UK imports substantial quantities of bacon, gammon, ham, sausages and other processed pig meat products. These are mostly derived from cuts for which domestic demand exceeds supply.

  13. I think the irony involved here runs far far deeper than the fact the bacon in the poor man's sarnie was likely Dutch in origin the first place :D

  15. There is a real concern for animal health and pork products. African swine fever is spreading west acrosss Europe, I think it's reached Germany and maybe Belgium. There are a bunch of wild boar running around the woods near me, and there are signs everywhere telling people not to leave pork based food around, even in public bins. When it reached China a couple of years ago they culled 100 million pigs - no social isolating. So the UK should perhaps be checking Dutch lunch boxes, on animal health grounds, or at least introduce a sarnie quarantine period

Great headline but nothing new though, I've been stopped at airport customs in both Germany and Spain over the past few years and had ham sandwiches confiscated. I think it's something to do with cooked meat potentially contaminating the food chain.

  19. it has taken us almost a year to introduce covid tests at land sea and airports but What is good for the Goose is good for the Gander,
I hear Ms Merkel refers to this covid variant as the "British Virus", apart from it probably came over from France or Holland into Kent, and this country identified it not created it.
I was always of the understanding that if products were still in an unopened package as purchased there wasn't a problem, obviously not
