I'm single, no kids, probably never will have any. I pay top echelon tax and get nailed for everything..prescriptions, dental care etc etc.

Were I to loose my job, I'd get negligible help if any. I face my state pension becoming worthless in my lifetime.

I have no issue with any of the above, I believe that society has a pyramid structure and we all play our roles where ever they are. I'm not lucky, I maximised my potential and graft, I benefit from my work, as does the treasury.

I don't evade tax, but it gets annoying when my needs don't seem to be considered at all, as others (am taking the discussion well away from sure start and anyone here) fight over my earnings.

The families whose sole income is kids, who are singularly Marmitee at raising them bug the living Marmite out of me. From afar sure start looks like a good idea, it's a pity it will be sacrificed for people like the Philpotts who are only here to take.

When I stand to gain pretty much nothing and contribute a lot, it's a hard sell to believe this is fair.

I'm not moaning, just giving another perspective on the welfare state.

  2. The trouble with the benefits system is that it needs 75% of people paying in and 25 % taking out.....I bet we are now closer to 50/50

A bona vide lie detector test would give the benefits system the kick up the arse it needs, same for the tax system.

It's ridiculous that the 'self employed' loop hole can't be closed for example....the days were the administration of government has less planet like inertia need to arrive.

The Internet has woken the 3rd world to what the 1st world has, and the 1st swathes of mass human migration are starting.

  4. I think the world has sped up so much and change so much so fast
Your traditional stay at home mum whilst the dad goes to work at his job for life and close family live nearby has gone forever

Im fully aware that a lot of people use the system rather than relying on it in times of need

I have however seen a lot of people that slip from above so quickly to the bottom and without help would just sink in the mud

I pay tax and ive no problem with that at all
I get annoyed when i see taxpayers money being wasted and then in the same week see people in desperate need of help soldiering on with no help available

Sure start was a great idea that the central goverment actually passed on and gave local goverment the chance to mould that service to best serve the area and the people in it

It worked well and enriched lives it may even have saved a fourtune in future mental health and social services costs in the future

A good thing that has happend is that all primary school children will get free school dinners from september

Theres a genuine need for help for a lot of people who have fallen on hard times

That has nothing on the available Ltd Co loopholes and as we know multi-nationals are even worse (or better) at avoiding paying tax. Don't bash the little man.

You are eligible for benefits from European community countries if you prove you were self employed.

My understanding is, selling the big issue is self employment.

  11. The thing is what bennefits are available nowadays?
Im also led to belive that a complete new system is coming in soon

Any reasonable person would support a system that renders aid to those in need.

I'd stretch that they would also support well thought out initiatives that aid the community.

But the knowing abuse if the system, the waste of funding elsewhere and the lack of any strategy to halt this downward spiral is what irks.

  13. Not the answer to the post quoted
But the best explanation of how i look at things in good words instead of my typing

I think the feeling that your in a situation you cant change for the better is the most darkest place a human can be
Then again im despise false hope to keep people ticking over for a bit longer

  14. If you declare your earnings it is im told?

  15. My view on all this is I'm sure going to see some strong replies but forget inheritance tax and let's just lift the income tax across the board! Why do some pay 40% and others lower? Or let's have our own pot ie. What you put in you can get back out when needed!!! A little strong I accept but someone has to pay and some unfortunately always blame others. I know so many of our friends that started with nothing and made it. I have two children and we chose to have them, three would have been nice but we made a decision based on a few factors and money was one. Its all to easy to expect support but should it be paid for by others? Difficult but family has to be the first port of call!
