Ive just heard on the news that newcastle council are considering dropping funding for the sure start scheme
Notts County Council more or less hung them out to dry early last year, Chelle has been f****d around with her job for months now..the families she is supporting, we are sure are being set up to fail
It is ridiculous. When our boy was younger, we used to take him to the SureStart centre in Swinton. They are disadvantaging the most vulnerable children in the most needy areas of the UK. Another victim of TORY policy I am afraid. Salford has none left now.
for everyday people (like TLB'rs) yes a good start is essential, as far as Government goes, no! She (her job is Community Support) has families who are wanting to get back to work, better their education only to be knocked at the last hurdle!
My little un went to a sure start nursery and it was amazing how much she developed whilst she was there
I know they were very well attended in Bolton. My sister is a speech and language therapist specializing in early years communication.....she was given carte blanche to set up a pilot scheme for parents and toddlers....trouble is, the people who were attending were the ones who were most likely to be good communicators anyway, so it didn't really reach the target group..... Real shame that they've pulled the funding for Sure Start....smacks too much of a socialist policy to be maintained IMO Back to the three 'Rs'.....my 'Rse' .......Gove needs garotting in public
Most of her colleagues genuinely love doing their job helping kids learn, they had some great successes in past years, they all have lost the passion & its sickening as no one will listen to them
I have worked along side sure start in Boston and what a waste of money they were. Would order in m&s food when having a meeting. I'm not saying all at same as they ate run under different people in different areas . Its another great idea funded by central government then passed on to local government only to have their funding pulled by central government. Home start are better funded.
I wonder how much newcastle spent on electric car recharge points in the last few years compared sure start Then i wonder how much use both have had
had some interesting discussions with the primary school teachers I deal with at work.....while they all agree that school is to principally to educate, ie an academic institute, there's a cogent argument to suggest that as more parents are forced to go out to work and pay for nursery care (?) and children aren't being socialized by the time they reach school age, this needs to be incorporated into primary education...it shouldn't be a teacher's responsibility to ensure that children can hold a knife and fork, wash their hands, learn to share etc. but if it aint happening at home, where else is it going to take place?
