Does your van take you beyond your financial means ?

  1. Certainly my job isn't the best paid and I work long hours - my pasion for Gladys is huge - I is my belief that if I had 2-3 grand spare and a whole 2 weeks I could finish her - but I will struggle on and i would think it will be another 6 months at least - frustrating :arrggh: :arrggh: :arrggh: :arrggh: :arrggh: :arrggh:

  2. I know what your sayin there Dale
Lack of spare cash in general and very little time really restricts me getting on with mine, some weeks i manage to get a fair bit done, then i dont seem to do anything for a couple of weeks due to one thing or another
but you just crack on with it and dream about being on the road one day

  4. It did when I built my engine, I wanted it all to be right and perfect for me so ended up blowing money on powder coating, dells etc. Was it worth it? For the learning experience, yes, financially, no. But I earn mega bucks now so I don't care

  5. I sold my pride and joy I loved that mk1 golf but it mainly sat there doing not a lot and the money off that has paid for more parts for June but with work and home plus the weather I don't get much done but I'm already starting to plan trips away even if it is in my head

  6. If I did`nt have the buses the house would be finished.... ;D

  7. In answer to the original question: Yes, without a doubt. Well beyond and into credit card territory.

  8. We talked about this at home in the week - If we sold the van we'd be a lot better off. If we sold the van I'd be miserable .... And no one wants that

Sometimes, but I try & avoid using the credit card to finance it.

i've never been so skint since i had my van - seriously - but when i'm in it i've never been so happy, i really wish i could stop impulse buying things though, i have always been the same but it is really getting me in a hole if i'm honest, i've spent over a grand this last 2 months (on cards) on things i just didn't need and i feel really bad, i have to reign it in big time or i'm gonna end up looking out the window at it for another year and not going anywhere in it, silly really, i could sell it and pay off my debts and still have enough to buy a rough but reliable one.....

If I can't afford it in cash, I don't buy it.
Using a credit card is a mugs game.

    Cut it up now then!
Really don't get the attraction of people buying things they can't afford.

I don't have a credit card and i don't even have a overdraft , if i did my van would be shinier ;)

it still took more money than i put aside for the work though :(

  20. I find financial conversations awkward
we all have different means and different habits and different budgeting techniques, different priorities

some can afford what others can't and that makes it a bit of an awkward thing to discuss in my opinion

    but thats just me

oh. And I use my credit card heavily
