I've a mind to replace my dipstick bellows with something else while my exhaust is off. I just attempted to measure the dia of the oil filler end and failed. If anyone's in a position to measure this both at its thickest where it flares out and the straight part that would be great. I'm not in a position to remove the oil filler so the plan is to sleeve the fan housing part... somehow...then fit some flexible hose. It'll be a faff to fit but by eck I'm fed up with the stock solution.
Get the viton ones . you won't be disappointed ..had mine on for 7 years no probs . Someone put on a link as to who supplies them ...Yanks mind, pricy but worth it ...try and get a group buy .
And the stopper idea I had the other day ... .. buy some rubber tube that fits inside the tube that goes over the metal pipe from the engine. Glue it in.. simulate tapered tube with a stepped profile until you hit the 6mm ID or to fit over whatever OD a T4 dipstick has..
It's in an awkward place to access Mike and I don't want to take the oil filler off to degrease it because my oil would fall out. There are only a few mm between the pipes which doesn't help and the fan housing won't come right off with the engine in situ...
What I imagined was before installation, making a tapered tube by joining one 13mm ID tube to a 13+ mmOD tube to form the taper. Sometime the rubber bellows bit comes off , thats the bit I imagined swapping .
I've dig out my spare which bear in mind has been powder coated so I think the thinner part is nearer 10.5 The flared bit on mine was a bit wider
Mk 1. If I can find suitable clips. It needs cutting to length. Part 8mm fuel, part 1/2" /hydraulic pipe stripped to the core.
...but when I cleaned up and paid attention there was no cable tie on the top part and the bellows has gone a little soggy, so ...I copped out and cable tied the top.
As new bellows don't seem to last for long before splitting, does anyone think that reinforcing it with a few wraps self-amalgamating tape might make it last longer?
