Converting our Devon bunks into a bed

  1. I agree, 20mm ply would defo be better.

  2. The iron is attached with size12 , 1 1/4 screws. I used a 4 mm drill bit and drilled into the metal that held the original bunks up.
The fabric is like deck chair fabric bought from Doncaster market . :)

  3. Excellent - am actively thinking about a conversion for ours this autumn and asked a trade stand at the B'mouth cruise on Sunday about it. Without seeing ours I was told it might cost "in the region of a grand" which is lot more than £95!!

    Cheers

  4. poop, i took my bunks out so no longer have the metal strip :(
i used to love donny market for fabric in the 80's, i didn't realise it was still going! :)

  5. No , I drilled into the van, the inner roof where the bunks had been attached to . :)

  6. ACE! so that means i can do it too? :)

what days are donny market on? may have to go visit my folks and have a shopping trip

  7. This looks great.Used to have a similar set up in our old Aussie bay.Really compact when travelling and can be used for storage during the day when not needed.

  8. i'm guessing i'll need to measure the height of where to put the angle iron so that i can drive with the pop down and still stack the boards on top?

  9. That looks great, what a fab idea, I'm half way through fitting a set of the bunks back in, would have gone down your route though if I'd thought of it earlier. Looks much more practical and comfortable for the kids.

  10. doubletop

  11. My bunks had been removed out of my Devon by a PO, and I always thought about putting at least one back up for storage/nephew etc.

However, I think I prefer this, and looks easier too!

Well done on a great job, and thanks for sharing!

  15. Wow. Excellent job. We have bunks removed but was thinking that one might be useful for storage. But I think your mod is better. Another job to my list of projects!

  16. This is proper good. Ws gonna do this to our bus so great to see one finished, seems much better for putting kids on rather than in skinny bunks. Cheers for sharing

  17. would ply be heavier though?
what thickness foam did you use, want it to be comfy without noses touching the ceiling :)
i know i'm asking lots of q's (sorry) but really want to make this!

  18. We've only used camping rolls (cut up) as foam. I wanted them to be thin. We are getting 2 new rolls tomorro for the kids to roll out once up there. Let you know after the weekend how we get on.
Donny market is tues , fri , sat. :)
