You mentioned in your parts list 2nd hand camshaft obtained. Is that the one in the picture earlier in the thread which everyone mentioned was well worn? Is it also a hydraulic cam?
I'm not sure the 2nd hand cam is that worn.. Just the coating gone in a nice pattern...dont look to be worn down like the original which has channels in it.. but close ups would help.. I think Zedders wants the bearing bits doing as they looked rough but hard to tell in the photo.. More likely the sunken seat wearing out the cam than the other way round I'd have though with it pushing on it more, sunken seats are more of an overheating thing apparently Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
Yeah all the damage is coming from top left cylinder 3? Looking at the damage I am amazed it lasted as long as it did. Are these the correct parts for me https://www.coolairvw.co.uk/product/022109309/ https://www.coolairvw.co.uk/product/029198175/
IF someone hadn't left it to go rusty, pitting both the lobes and the journals, that might have been ok. But it's scrap IMO.
maybe, but hard to be certain from a picture I would scotch Brite or 1500 that and see , you would be surprised what cleans up
That would be nice but I'm sceptical. A few pits on the journals would be ok but on the lobe ramps that's acting like a file? There's only one way to find out...
I will give it a go shortly then let you know how it goes. @davidoft Do you think you might have a head laying about I could possibly buy or do you think it's worth putting a wanted add Also can someone just double check those links please x
It feels really smooth to me no bumps or divets. I have a some putting on the piston head I can see now I have started to clean. Will that be a big issue also no size on them I can see
Oversize will have a number on stock didn't bother..so 94mm if you're 2ltr... piston pits prob ok no sharp edges Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
Sounds good enough , do the wear marks on the lobes disappear if you wet n dry them ? Use oil with paper
It'll need to come off if you're changing your main bearings.. the crank's a surprisingly fair old weight even with it off Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
