very quickly, as we're off down the pub to say farewell to friends etc (& have an early 40th beer for @Mrs Busmonkey who approaches next Wednesday with a mix of trepidation and nonchalance).
Doors edged today. All 9, took a while as I'd guessed.
A bit of PU squeeze to clean up tomorrow. And then I horse in with hinges and catches.

Long day today but a progress day.
I've put together the rear over-bed cabinet, routing, drilling, sanding, and varnishing along the way

Then cleaned all the PU off the doors. What a ball ache. Stanley knife and very sharp chisel was the only way. Then sanded the door backs and gave them another coat of the trusty quick drying satin floor varnish that Screwfix sell.

Then.....took a few big breaths & leapt into the handle thing.
Those of you with Westy's will know how the handles work. There is no adjustment on them, they either fit or they don't. I measured, measured, measured then made a little template, measured again then got the drills out.

Oh, and got @Mrs Busmonkey in the back of the van on her back with her legs in the air......;)

    Handle template

To us, a thing of beauty as it represents months of planning, hard work and grief.

Hold it there sweetheart, I'm just off down the pub.....

Fitted and a couple of doors hung (minus handles). Looking forward to tomorrow....

  7. Hey guys! So sorry to hear you have been let down by so called professionals! An all to familiar circumstance unfortunately! Love what you have managed to salvage! I know you shouldn't have had to spend the money time etc but at least you will know it has been done properly!
Just a quick note to mrs bus monkey, thanks for the info on the trimmer you used but my guy turned out ok! Thankfully one if those situations when a proff has turned out to be what he said he was :) [IMG]

And that's a great job fizzpro, the devils in the detail for me and I like the colour match and the way the lines match up.

    Today, nailed it!
Started by making the table. We had an old Continental folding unit to copy. It was properly knackered so I got new hinges etc and this is the result. I'm quite pleased.

Here it is fitted in the van. It's attached to the bed base by the slider. See @Dicky that's what I was trying to explain on the phone earlier:rolleyes:

    I've fitted the doors.
It's a massive weight of my mind. They're not perfect but I think they look quite effective.
The handles are new repro ones (a little too light grey if we're being picky) as are the catches and striker plates. All the little plunger things inside the push buttons had to be ground down by 4mm to fit but fit they do.
Oh and last job as the light was fading was to lay the floor covering.

We're chasing the sun Clive, but it has to be said it's been scorchio here the last couple of days.:)

South through Belgium, Germany (kissing the Black Forest), into Austria and down through Slovenia into Croatia.
Then, all being well, onto Greece via a bounce off Italy (avoiding Bosnia, Serbia and Albania).

    That's the plan......

  15. I may have to nick that idea! Mine was facing that on the propex box behind the bulkhead so it swung ouside. This does a similar thing methinks!

  16. Fnarrrrrrrr!

  17. You gonna love Croatia! its beautiful and the people friendly.
If you go then stop off at a small town called Makarska,on top of the mountain overlooking it is a restaurant, the views are amazing!

Sorry for the delay in replying pkrboo but internet is something I've avoided for the last couple of weeks!
They came in from the US.
The system is all working well apart from the leisure battery:(
It was the only corner I cut on the build, using a secondhand battery, albeit from a known source. My own stupid fault as I'd used it as a starter whilst helping out a boater whose boat had broken down!
