  1. That really sucks man! I think we are all waiting excitedly to see you go and hear about your EU adventures! Oh well,as you said, things happen for a reason!

Nicely put Dicky from an outsiders perspective. Big Mouse, Little Mouse (business name for you that are interested), more like Big Mouth, No Nouse!
We'll be about next week, look fwd to a catch up:thumbsup:

Thanks Lofty, I appreciated your sentiments. The work is good, but in fairness the carcass is the relatively (and I don't wish to sound flippant coz a lot of work goes into them!) easy part. The final finish makes or breaks the job. We all know that, no matter what we do. :D

Bang on pkrboo, hardest bit whimped out on! ;)

What's the matter with it then? I thought it just needed the last couple of bits fitted and job done? Looked good to me. :)

Cheers Clive, head down, tail up.

So today, after varnishing the floor in our friends honey production kitchen I set to work on the bus. Just a few hours. Bit of fiddling. Tomorrow I've got a friend coming over for the extra pair of hands to trim the doors. :D:D

Gas work tidied up and hob  in. Spot underseal applied, plumbing done with another hole on the floor , shelves made and fitted, floor filled in the screw heads etc with car body filler and sanded, cold beer consumed from fridge....

Tops for the fridge area. I've got to fettle the rhs filler piece with some painted channel to match the fridge box metal work.

    Sink plumbing in.
    P1040732.jpg

Shelf supports drilled and shelves in. (Mrs Monkey will determine exact position dependant upon which baskets she uses )
    P1040740.jpg P1040742.jpg

Floor sanded with one of my fav tools...
    P1040744.jpg

And this shows one sad tale of know-it-all pig headed customer unfriendly work.
Look at the difference of the width of the edge of the hob to the right hand end of the cabinets.
Why would you do this after lengthy discussions, maybe because he's a spiteful individual who knew there was no spare laminate to rectify the mistake.

Our new one will enable us to make grilled headrests and seat backs, anyone for a sandwich!!

Looked good to me Zed, but the doors and counter top were the real technical bits (as far as I am concerned, I'm not good with such things).

I'll measure, mark and knock in trim all day but I just wanted the last bits doing professionally.

It's the way it all ended that's really got to us. It turns out that several local businesses who have good reputations on our scene now refuse to deal with this guy due to his attitude towards referred customers and finishing jobs off.
If only......BUT we'll sort it

Ahhh I see what you mean, the hobs in the wrong place - what a tit! That's the trouble with people making stuff who never use it I expect. :(
No doubt you could in time get more laminate and re-make the top. :)

Yeah. We think we can. I was told (by guess who) that the laminate supplier is currently closed due to staff walk out! Thanks for reminding me Zed, I'll get Mrs Monkey on the case tomorrow.

When the mistake was initially made about 3 weeks ago, even then he tried to twist it round to be my fault. I'd left it with him to sort, all was good, so I thought.
However I walked into the workshop last week to find the tit had already pocket screwed and bonded the "wrong" top to the base cabinet. It seems the whole thing may need to be remade. That's materials, templates, doors, trim, hinges, etc etc. We've parked it for now!

It's the doors thing that's broken me. I suspect there may be further issues related to clearances etc & we'll see tomorrow.

Thanks Para. Life can be a little up & down at times as you well know!
We're still smiling though. It's only a bus.....

Do you mean there's a "right" top as well and he didn't use it?

No @zed , I asked for the top to be remade. I was told "don't worry, I'll sort it, it's all worked out in my head" tutut! He didn't rectify the problem (for which we would have covered some of the material cost coz I've just got money to burn), he just completely ignored it. Great customer service.

There is also a beautifully made lid that matches the hob top (like the old Deluxe) that is also potentially firewood due to the way it's been made.

You nailed it earlier when you mentioned work being done by persons with no empathy to our lifestyles. And this is a warning to anyone who is considering using non-scene or unsympathetic trades.
We just couldn't seem to get through our need for compact storage. It would have been OK if we'd wanted a space swallowing wine rack and glass storage cupboard! Who cares if it's not to his taste, isn't that what diversity is about?

With hindsight we should have walked away then but as I said I'm daft and give people the benefit of the doubt. Should listen to the Mrs more....

    BTW, anyone want a loan.
Or if you don't need a loan I'm giving out free money.
Oh, and don't bother with a receipt, I trust you..........

  13. Could you open up the sink and control openings and move the hob to the left and sit it on a stainless steel 'frame' and then do something similar with the control panel (either laminate one ply or black plastic/metal). Might be a 'make do' till you decide whether to rebuild or not but at least your seat won't get burnt.

Hope this makes sense. It does in my head !

In the final analysis DIY is the way forward. You only have yourself to blame then. Also it enables you to be almost budget free with no labour to pay for and that's the crux - perfection for even £k's is pretty unlikely - time is money spent with "nothing" to see.
    That's a good idea.

BTW - DA sander - how did I get through almost 50 years of my life without one of those!

That's probably what we will end up doing, Lofty, maybe even for the longterm. It'll be a compromise but at the moment neither of us can face ripping anything out!
For now, I have a foldable splash-back that will slide into the recess at the back of the unit and down the side. Show you tomorrow :D

And thankyou @zed for your kind words of comfort :D Would you like some money?

You'll not get a frying pan on that with the seat/splash back in the way. ;) No bacon sarnies for you my lad!
What I meant was you didn't fully DIY and paid the price of someone else doing a thing that you wouldn't have.
Yes please to the free money - how much you got so I can start dreaming. :)

Mrs Monkey interjecting here (just awaiting my own account confirmation :D) Our esteemed cabinet maker "friend"s solution to this little problem was "just move the seat forward when you want to use the hob"!!!!!!!!!!! Really?????!!!!!

  19. You both use the word "Really" in exactly the same context indeed I could hear TBMs voice as I read that!
