Calling all Clutch and Gearbox Geeks....I know you're out there....

  1. Investigating the possibility of fitting a hydraulic clutch for upright motor with 091 G/Box. Seen a few posts and threads, where alternative bellhousings and bespoke brackets have been made up. Now although I do like a challenge, I also like straightforward. McCleod (US) do a hydraulically operated thrust bearing, which , in essence, will work on the pressure plate in much the same way as the stock set-up....provided it fits!
Here's the rub...I contacted McCleod and here is what he said:

"We offer a slip on style bearing that slides on your factory bearing retainer or nosecone, however it requires a nosecone of either 1.375 inches or 1.430 inches to properly fit on the transmission. You will also need a dimension from the back of the bell housing to the tip of the fingers of 3 inches or greater for this bearing to properly work."

If anyone has the opportunity to make the necessary measurements this could be an excellent mod for anyone wanting to lighten their clutch/eradicate cable stretch....Needs further research, if anyone's interested. [IMG] Could make for a good group buy???

No idea on the diameter of the "osecone". They mean the guide for the release bearing?
But I doubt there's anywhere near 3" from back of bell housing to fingers.

    ok "not all of it"

  7. 2 at most I'd say...

plus I looked into these several years ago now, and for an aftermarket unit like that, it was somewhere in the region of $200 plus shipping and duty... Then you still have to add on a MC, and a mechanism to operate the MC from the clutch pedal...

    I'll stick with my T25 parts!! ;)

  14. thought about this...but would need a MC and mechanism anyway...T25 Bellhouing, slave cylinder and brackets??? Swings and roundabouts I reckon.
