We're looking at going "modern" ... a vexed moment, but all that aside there's only one advert that comes close, so I thought I'd pitch it out here to see what people think, or suggest we ask if we go see ...... It's a 2008 btw https://www.gumtree.com/p/campervans-motorhomes/vw-t5-swb-camper-/1362773107
Cam belt and water pump are 4 yearly(I believe) so due to be changed unless your feeling lucky! 20" wheels look good, generally not a nice ride especially if lowered... We bought a caravelle which runs 18s, very nice ride, great to drive.. and so much better than a bay!!! I know ill pay for it but its true
Having driven a couple they're a nice van to drive , just a big car to be honest but expect some big bills if / when anything goes wrong . Check how well the conversion has been done :- Cheapo homemade effort ?? Gas pipes in copper ?? Heater ?? Fridge ?? Operation of the bed ?? Roof watertight ?? Just the usual really but wouldn't know where to start with engine problems , I'm sure there'll be someone along with the pitfalls .One of the downsides in my 'umble opinion is they always seem to be a bit dark and dingy inside ... Edited the first post ... They don't mention it, and I couldn't zoom enough on the reg, but it's 2008
Yes, this didn't seem as dark as others, but only going to see it will do on that front ... So far I know what "honest John" has to say about knocking sounds from various places and what they might mean ...
SWB means we can treat it as a daily. The pop top on this looks like a good un to my untrained eye. We're not tall, but getting too decrepit to crouch around in our LHD tintop! This one won't earn any of its keep at weddings etc but that's not what this thread is about We have a project T2 to shift, and the one in the avatar which, being valued for insurance at £30,000, should get £17,000, but of course who's buying at the moment?! Wondering what people think of the "price point" on this as well.
We had a lwb but for the 3 of us it was ideal,I see what you means about using it as a daily though. We loved ours to bits.
Ahhh.... Forgot you had a tin top. I forget how uncomfortable they can be on the back and if I was in your position I'd be looking around ... Or How about a nice pop-top for sir ?? Edit - just re-read your post , please ignore the above gibberish ... Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
Just the two of us for the touring ... Haven't worked out how easy the "loft" bed is to get in and out of. Might be a case of making some small changes below and just have the roof as a standing space (?)
The other thing is we're LHD and the boss is NOT keen to drive it. (She hasn't yet in three years) Yes! The original fiasco was around a RHD Dormobile ... which I like the roof of but not the bed set up, so all the agro probably for the best. Westies seem over stocked with cupboards to me .... Kind of need to make a clean break from all the variables to be found with T2s!
Thanks ... It's a shade under the most common "price point", but then there's most likely a reason for that!
You won't like sleeping upstairs, great for kids but .... Needs a proper r&r bed across the back doors for you both to enjoy the experience. I just open the roof and have an in situ homemade shelf coming out about 2 feet from the small 'wedgie' end where I store things whilst camping . Getting ready to move off means popping all the stuff from the shelf onto the seat or floor , roof down and off you go - couple of minutes. Well worth a gander if a T5 is what you're looking for . OH ... Obviously see how easy it is to lift and lower the roof !! Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
Yes, one of the things that looks easier to do with this one than others is do my own version of the "doubleback" that I've been daydreaming about for years but never found until yesterday (very rare) when I found reference to one ... that had been sold in the time it took to email the guy
