I can't vote! Mines probably the only Nigerian Bus in the UK (and probably in Nigeria as well, considering how they abused them 40 years ago ) Tony
The salt on the roads here played havoc with original buses - that plus they were worth bobbins for a whiles and unlike SA, US and Aus, people didn't tend to have the space (as in space at home) to abandon them in garages when not in use. The majority of vans I've seen at shows are imports - my only negative observation on that is that people are not doing anything to rust proof them or sort leaks that will rot them out in no time.
Mine (BearShack) was intended & spec'd for a Canadian soldier on tour in Germany. VW gave them free home shipping at the end of their tours but it was sold in Germany & trundled over here. Sold my RHD Crossover Dormie & bought this LHD (in better condition) for half the price. Easy calculation. Though I am still after a good RHD Panel but I may have mentioned that
mines made in germany tarted up in devon , and sold at bridge motor works leicester and now lives darn sarf , at least you dont look like a pervee kerb crawler driving rhd and your passengers get in and out the safe side init . If i wanted sumat american id have a cadilac
I agree i have seen loads with no proper protection underneath , worse still they were never given any protection from new and the sand inside the chassis on some of them ....if not blown out will hold salty water for a long time , that's if you do drive them in the winter months.
mine hasn't been rust treated at all since arrival, that said it never goes out in the salt and is inside most of the winter, the rust around the windscreen doesn't get any better though and i treated it with the screen out a couple of years ago but there are bits creeping here and there, my plan still stays the same as it did upon purchase, keep on top of it until the loan is paid (1 year left of 5) and then decide to restore or replace, restore means i keep for a long time as financially i'd never get the investment back, or replace - if i sold it in a year i'd probably get my investment back and it becomes someone elses propblem...... i could then buy a 68 tintop for the odd weekend and make it a daily with an engine conversion and go back to caravanning or statics for main holidays as it's becoming less comfy for mrs roo to cope with as a "main holiday"
Mine is UK motor it's solid all round really had a hell of alot of sprayed underseal on floors sound . I think it's just luck with UK motors , some will have been garaged over winter . Mine has had 14 owners ,new in Cambridge ,Kingston on Thames ,Morden ,Sutton ,Greenwich ,Egham, Crouch End ,Charlton ,Bushey Charlton ,Hatfield ,West Norwood ,Plumstead ,Colchester ,Accrington ,Ashbourne ,it's bin around a bit .
Wow this old chestnut again It's as been round the block about five times ain't it, can't see the point in commenting
Mine's an original UK Westy - registered in August '73 in Cardiff - with 14 registered owners - although the last 3 before me were all in the one family - so I am the 12th owner in effect - made it's way northwards going from Wells to Manchester in early 2000s and eventually to Formby, Lancs where I bought it ( thanks Julian). It has obviously spent some time on the beaches of Cornwall with surfer dudes as it has surf board brackets on the roof .
