Brake light issues

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Bluebelle, May 3, 2017.

  1. I have just swapped a faulty original VW switch (3 pin) with one from VWH - 'Meyle Germany - Passed Quality Control' it says on the box....

Guess what, I checked this morning and it is leaking between the metal and plastic, so much for 'Quality'!

At least my brake lights are working again, but where can I get a quality replacement that works properly and doesn't leak?

I undertand that the orginal VW part is no longer available. Is the ATE brand one any good?

    Thanks

I have two unused 3 pin VW switches purchased a few years ago that I will never fit now that I have converted to a switch off the pedal. If you’re interested I’ll be in the UK at the end of the month and could post.

  3. If fazer doesn’t have these I’d be interested in them.

  4. Thanks very much for the offer, I may take you up on it if I can't find a solution quickly - the problem is that the MOT is due in the next couple of weeks and had hoped to use the van during this fine weather, so frustrating!

Babble solved the leaking problem with Meyle switches so those ‘should’ have been fine, get VWH to send you a replacement.

  6. Hi, yes I had the exact same problem with leaking switches...... proper pain in the back side.
    (mine are 3 pin switches)

Genuine VW switches are now obsolete, I looked high and low for some :(

SKP, leaked the worse, proper peed out
the ones I had from VWH were not Meyle, I can't remember what they were, but they leaked from between the black elec connection and the metal part of the switch.

I got Meyle from Schofields earlier this year and mine were both fine (3rd time lucky),....... no leaks and brakes lights came on when slowing and not just at full stop :D
I regularly check them for peace of mind

If the Meyle had have leaked, I was going to try these ATE from coolair

    Good luck

I got mine from GSF lasted about 3 years but for about £4 I didn’t mind.

  8. I have another Meyle which I will try (bought two and was going to swap both), but I'm definitely interested in buying your two VW switches, please let me know when you are back in the UK. Cheers

PM sent. Let me know as soon as possible, I’m only in the UK until the end of the week. @paradox if fazer1k doesn’t want them are you still interested? £6 plus postage for the two switches.

  11. Yes I’ll definitely take them if fazer doesn’t want them.
