  4. @D5andy nice work. How did you clean the underside?
I've tried wire brush but it way too much labour.

  5. It was a combination of scrapers + chisels to remove the waxy stuff. Wire brush seemed to reactivate the underseal as did heat..
Then washing up brushes with the secret ingredient to remove the residue ;-) white spirit.. And some blue clothes to wipe the gunk off
Followed up with wire brushes twisted knot on grinders and air drills..
Then some marine clean followed by steam cleaning and jet wash
    Basically loads of labour

The alternative would be blasting ... if I had my time again its what I would do, I have spent way too many weeks on this :gnome:

  6. Haha ok, I think I'll just do the side bits, weld the two side belly pans on, then pay someone to do the rest properly. I tried twisted brush on the grinder but kept getting rust in the eyes and mouth.
Really nice work though mate, if mine looked half as good as that I'd be happy.

  7. Been camping in IOW for most of this week, obviously not in the camper :p

Letting the paint cure, seems ok a few places are giving me a concern perhaps the surface wasn't a clean as it should have been are some contamination occurred...

Any how cracked on with the offside sill stuff, decided to grind back a little further on the I beam
    [IMG]

Removed the rear offside jacking point as it was too far gone... Debating what to do with the top hat think I just need to replace a little of it as it isn't up to snuff.

Ran out of space on my phone I guess I need to remove the last three years worth of photies off it to make room :D

  8. You'd think after the holiday I'd be cracking on but I seem t be on a go slow... Must pull finger out

Today did a test fit of the inner sill and middle
    [IMG]

Seemed like a good fit so...

Nice how it could be if I get busy :D

So need to cut some I and tophat section to replace the bits I lopped off

Trial fit of the I section with the inner sill
    [IMG]

Measured up and is the same as the other side :)

Then the 1st top hat section trial fit with inner
    [IMG]

    Slight difference between sides here
    [IMG]

Offside is like 32cm and near side (sliding door) is 31cm not sure if this is normal :gnome:
When I measured up before I removed the inner it was around the 32cm but it was hard to tell as there was a lot of plating inthe way.
But the fitment seems ok ...

  9. One question I have is should I be repairing the floor section before welding in the inner?

Is there an order to things... This is how my floor looks..

I'd do the sills and floor supports and patch the floor last. But prep the floor first while the other stuff is out of the way.

  11. Oki doki - just need to cut out the other I section floor support and replace a section above the rear jacking point and should be good to go!

  12. Just been majorly told off by the neighbour
Apparently I have the whole street up in arms

The question was asked 'how much longer?'...
To which I could only shrug and apologise... The response was that the council will be informed....

I've been really careful not to make noise before 9am and after 7pm and to not to use the grinder every day :(

I guess I was riding my luck - does anyone know what the council will do? It a private house and its on my drive...

Not happy that the neighbours aren't happy but I don't have any option at the moment :(

Bummer, I always wonder if I'm pushing my luck a bit!

Could you plan your work differently? maybe doing the bulk of the cutting grinding and shaping at the weekends and then welding, painting and protecting in the quieter times? Maybe suggesting this to the complainant to keep him sweet?

Failing that, find out what his favourite malt is ;)

  14. I have the exact same problem. Only from one place across the road though. None of my neibourghs care.
He's already gone to the council in my case.
Basically your not allowed to make lots of noise before 7am and after 11pm. And it has to be below a certain decibel, a grinder is over this decibel. I can't remember the exact figures but it is over.

As long as your doing everything you can to minimise it, the council won't do anything. I don't start grinding before 10am and finish no later than 5, because people like to eat dinner in peace.
Other than that.. It will take the council 6 months to respond to your neighbours, by that time.. You'll probably be done haha.

  15. I dont think the council can do anything
Your not a council tennant and your not doing the work during unscoiable hours
Your not working in the street and your not running a buisness from a private home
The may band about the threat of an asbo but i doubt they could enforce it

  16. Ironically he highlighted the noise at the wknd being unreasonable
I think the problem is that there are quite a few retired folk round here and so noise at any time is a nuisance for them :(
Last thing I want is for the to get the high blood pressure  and go pop :p very bad karma :(

Hehe yep optimism is my downfall I thought I'd be done months ago :D
I think that the 5pm curfew is a good idea and perhaps in alternate day / hour bursts instead of constant for 2days :p
This is true - its a relief I shall press on - I tried to be sympathetic to him I think he went away calmer than when he arrived

If he complains, they'll write you a letter advising that if there are more complaints they'll monitor the situation. In other words you have a window, but if you own the house, you probably don't want to pee the neighbours off. I did one on my drive, but it's at the bottom of everyone's gardens. When nobody complained I was impressed with their neighbourliness and vowed never to make such a racket again. It's tricky, grinding and hammering are very noisy.

  19. got to love the old folk of 'Ming! I moved away from there last year. My neighbours were a miserable bunch too. not helped by the fact that when I put my place on the market, the setate agents posted pictures of my next door neighbours house by mistake. I thought he would laugh it off as a genuine mistake but he was saying we'd hear from his solicitor. I dont think you're being unreasonable. If ive got a time restraint then I'm out when ever the weather permits. I keep the immediate neighbours sweet by bringing wine and inviting them to BBQ's :)

  20. Yep strangely I had a chat with another neighbour and they were surprised that people had complained. They were very positive about what I was doing and admired my work ethic

As it happens this neighbour manages a local fishery which also has workshops on its land which they rent out. He is going to see if anyone would like to sublet some space to a looney with a campervan :p
